A structure alarm assignment was dispatched on the 22-1 box for 773 Main Street in Lykens for a reported house fire, alerting companies 22, 23, 24, 21, Schuylkill 66 and Medic 6. Chief 22-1 arrived on scene and reported heavy smoke coming from the C side of a 2 and 1/2 story single family dwelling. On the arrival of Chief 22, he assumed command and Chief 22-1 went to the Station to staff the Tower. Engine 22 responded with 6 and arrived on side A/D with a hydrant directly in front of the structure. Truck 22 responded with 3 and set up on the A side and went to the roof to ventilate. Three lines were pulled from E22, with one going through the front door, one through the D side door, and one to the rear. Engine 23 arrived on the C/D side with their own hydrant and pulled one line to the C side. First in crews found heavy fire on the C side, running from the basement wall to the roof line through a space between an older interior chimney and a newer exterior chimney. Suppression activities included opening up the walls on both sides of the two chimneys. The Truck crew vented the roof while crews went interior to extinguish the fire. Crews from 24 and 21 arrived and rotated in to the suppression activities. Tower City Air Light set up in front of Engine 22 to fill air, while Medic 6 set up on the side street and placed the 7 occupants of the structure in their rig during the event. Control was marked and crews began salvage and overhaul with crews tarping most of the first floor. Overhaul continued for some time as fire was dug out between the chimneys. Command placed most units available until 22 crew got the last of the hot spots, and then were placed available by command.
