Bridge Washed Away
Lykens, PA

November 15, 1866

Heavy rains in the vicinity caused the waters of the Wiconisco and Rattling Creeks to rise several feet above low water level. On Thursday, November 15, 1866, the Market Street bridge over the Wiconisco Creek, which was under construction, having began in October, was washed away by the flood waters. Mr. Weaver, the contractor constructing the bridge, suffered a considerable loss. The bridge was finally built and open for use in May 1867.
