A fire destroyed the Willow Grove Tavern, south of Liverpool, on January 30, 1954. The cause of the fire was a space heater that got knocked over during an argument between two patrons. The heater sent burning oil all over place. The Liverpool Fire Company fought the blaze for nine hours and had it under control in 2? hours. They continued to pour water on the fire, as there was a strong wind blowing. The fire company drafted from a nearby pool to provide the much needed water. During the fire, four oil drums that were being stored in the basement ignited and shot flames high into the sky. The loss was $20,000.
