Companies 22 and 23 were dispatched to smoke in a structure at 755 Main Street in Lykens. Engine 22 responded with a crew of six, and Truck 22 responded with a crew of five. Upon arrival, crews went inside and discovered a slight haze on the first floor, a result of a furnace malfunction. Company 23 was placed available. Crews vented the building, shut down the furnace, and pulled the pipes. The occupants were advised to get a repair company in to service the furnace. The company then went available.
Company 22 was dispatched to assist Company 23 with a report of smoke from a structure at 402 Wiconisco Street in Wiconisco. Engine 22 responded with a crew of five, and Truck 22 with a crew of five. Both units arrived on the side-B, with the truck crew laddering the building and going to the roof, and the engine crew going in with Engine 23's crew to perform initial attack. Chief 23 had command. Knockdown was completed very quickly, with fire confined to the third floor attic and water damage down to the second floor. A large hole had burned through the attic floor. Crews assisted with salvage and overhaul. Rescue 21 responded on the box and assisted with overhaul and relieving crews. Crews assisted until released by command.
Engine 22 dispatched class one to 4017 Powells Valley Road in Jefferson Township to assist companies 19, 29, and 216 with a field fire. Engine 22 responded with 6, and on arrival, crew pulled a line to work one section of the 25 acre fire before going to set up a fill site on White Oak Road and Back Road. Eventually, companies 26, 20, and Perry 2 joined the call. Crew assisted with extinguishment and water supply until released by command.
A fire on the mountain south of Lykens, near the glen, was extinguished by Constable Oscar Hawk on March 23, 1901. At the time, constables were also fire wardens, with the authority to summon all aid necessary to prevent the spreading of mountain fires.
