The fourth fire of the year, 1888, occurred in the house of William Harner which was occupied by Henry Ream. (Remember Henry? He helped load the hose for the first fire. He is also one of the founding members.) Liberty Hose Company made attachment and extinguished the fire in a few minutes. Rescue Hose Company came after the fire was out. They made attachment but did not turn on the water.
Engine 22 was dispatched to a chimney fire at 427 South Second Street in Lykens. Engine 22 responded, and on arrival observed flames and smoke coming from the chimney of a large 2½ story brick single family dwelling. The crew split into two groups, with one laddering the building and going to the roof, while the other went into the basement, shut down the furnace, and removed the piping to the chimney. Chimney chains were run to remove hot debris from the interior of the chimney, and crews cleaned out the pipes from the basement. After re-connecting everything and turning the furnace back on, the company went available.
Company 22 dispatched on the 216-8 box in Jackson Township on Powells Valley Road for a report of a tree down on top of an unoccupied car. Chief 22 and Lieutenant 22-1 responded POV, and Engine 22 went enroute with 4. A tree was found down and across one lane of the road just above Minnich's Hit Road, but no car was found. The crew removed the tree from the roadway and went available.
Company 22 notified by pager of a pump detail at 403 South Second Street in Lykens, a result of very heavy rains in the area all day. A total of 7 members using POV's and 2 portable pumps went to the location and pumped out about 1 foot of water from a basement, and then went available.
Company 22 notified by phone about flooding in the basement of 660 North Street in Lykens. Two company members took a portable pump to the location and pumped the basement while 3 additional members stood by in station.
At the request of Medic 6-3 on scene, Company 22 dispatched class one to assist with lifting at 665 Main Street in Lykens. Truck 22 responded with 5 and 2 additional members responded to the scene POV. On arrival, the crew assisted EMS with extricating a patient from the residence to their transport unit and then went available.

Accident with no injury, 25 Main Street (Box 22-1)
Engine 22 and Rescue 23 dispatched class one to 25 Main Street in Lykens in front of the Mini Mart for a motorcycle versus pickup accident with no injury. Engine 22 responded with 6, and Chiefs 22-1 and 22-2 POV. On arrival, PSP was on scene with a motorcycle on the berm of the road and a pickup truck in the lot of the mini mart. Rescue 23 was placed in service. Crews cleaned up debris and secured the scene until released.
A single vehicle accident occurred on April 16, 2007, when a vehicle being driven north on Good Springs Road (Route 125) in Hegins Township, Schuylkill County slid on a slush-covered roadway, went up an embankment, and rolled onto its side. The incident happened about one mile south of Hegins. The driver was not hurt, but the vehicle was towed from the scene.
