Fire, Sacred Heart Church

Fire of undetermined origin caused very serious damage to the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Williamstown. Williamstown, Wiconisco, and Lykens Fire Companies fought the blaze, which originated in the vicinity of the center altar and shot upward through the ceiling to the space between the ceiling and roof. Damage is estimated at about $40,000.

Company 22 members spent the evening pumping out several basements in the 200 block of North Street, after heavy rains came through the area. Using POV, portable pumps, and portable generators, crews pumped out numerous basements.

Tanker 22 was dispatched for a structure fire in Lykens Township. The tanker was canceled before responding.
2004
Medical Assist, 301 Market Street (Box 22-1)
Detail >>
The company was dispatched for a medical assist at 301 Market Street. Members arrived on scene to find the patient in a second floor apartment being attended to by EMS. The crew assisted EMS with packaging the patient on a stair chair and removing him from the second floor apartment by way of an exterior fire escape. After the patient was transferred to a waiting ambulance, the crew went available.

Structure Fire, 120 Maple Lane (Box 24-3)

Box 24-3 was dispatched for a structure fire in the Laurel Hills development in Williamstown at 120 Maple Lane, Apartment 4. The initial report was for a stove fire. This sent companies 24, 23, 22, 21, Schuylkill 647 and 650. Truck 22 responded with 7, and was arriving on scene when command held the box to Tanker 24 and Engine 23.

Set up Landing Zone, 387 Arch Street (Box 24-1)

While Company 23 units were responding to a structure fire in Williamstown in Laurel Hills (see call number 31) a second call occurred in Williamstown for a pedestrian struck by a car. EMS requested Life Lion, with the LZ to be set up at the Helipad at Station 23. Chief 23 requested Engine 22 to respond to the LZ, and the Engine responded with 6. On arrival, Chief 23 had LZ command and the crew handled transfer of the patient to the helicopter. After Life Lion cleared the pad, command placed the Engine available.

Cardiac Arrest - AED, 203 North Street (Box 22-1)

Company 22 dispatched class one to 203 North Street for a cardiac arrest. Truck 22 responded with 5, Utility 22 with 1, and 3 additional members responded POV to the scene. On arrival, crews established patient contact and assessed patient until the arrival of EMS. They continued to assist Medic 6 until released by them, and returned available.

Structure Fire, 884 Center Street (Box 20-1)

Truck 22 dispatched as next due truck on the 20-1 box for a structure fire, smoke coming from the basement at 884 Center Street in Millersburg. As Truck 22 was about to respond with 7, dispatch advised that the Truck was in service.

Automatic Fire Alarm, 417 South Second St (Box 22-1)

Company 22 dispatched class one to 417 South Second Street in Lykens for a report of alarm bells sounding in a residence. Chief 22 responded POV, Engine 22 with 5, and Truck 22 with 3. On arrival, the crew entered the building and found a faulty detector sounding. While on scene, dispatch advised of a second call for a crash (see call number 30), and command released the Engine to respond to that. The Truck crew remained on scene until released by command.
2015
Accident with injuries, 672 Main Street (Box 22-1)

While on scene of the previous call (see call number 29) Command was advised of a crash in front of the Boyers Grocery Store at 672 Main Street. Chief 22 released the Engine which responded to the crash with 4. Rescue 23 was also dispatched class one, and responded with 6. On arrival, the Engine crew secured the vehicles involved and began patient assessment until the arrival of EMS. Crews directed traffic and provided scene safety until arrival of PSP and the towing company, and then went available.

AFA, 215 Pottsville Street (Box 23-1)

Engine 23 and Truck 22 dispatched class one on the 23-1 box at 215 Pottsville Street in Wiconisco Township for an automatic fire alarm. Chief 23-1 went enroute POV. Truck 22 responded with 7. On the arrival of Chief 23-1 at a 3 story multi-apartment building he determined the alarm activation to be false and placed the box in service.

Medical Assist, 801 Market Street (Box 22-2)

At the request of Medic 6 Company 22 dispatched class three to 801 Market Street in Lykens for a lift assist. Chief 22-1 responded POV to the scene and Utility 22 went enroute with 2. On arrival the crew assisted EMS with lifting the patient and then were released.
