Per request of EMS, Truck 22 was dispatched to assist with the removal of a patient from a second floor window of a home on Snapper Lane in Lykens Township, north-west of Loyalton. Engine 27 was on scene. The truck responded with a crew of five and arrived on scene, taking position on side-1. Using a stokes basket, the truck crew extricated the patient from second floor window to a waiting ambulance.
Companies 22, 23, 24, 21, and Tower City Air dispatched class one for a reported structure fire at 406 Main Street in Lykens Boro. Chief 22 went responding and saw a smoke column from 3 blocks away. Engine and Truck 22 responded, each with 4, and on arrival had a 2 and one half story duplex home with heavy smoke showing from the C side extending to the second floor. An initial attack was made on two fronts, with the Engine 22 crew forcing the front door and entering from side A while Engine 23 came in from the C side and attacked the visible fire showing in the kitchen. A primary search was completed on the east side fire building and found no one inside. Mutual aid units began arriving and additional personnel were deployed to assist with fire suppression and checking the west side of the duplex for extensions. Control was marked, and extensive overhaul was started. Units remained on scene assisting Company 22 until they were released by command. PSP and FM-1 fire marshals were on scene. Engines 21 and 27 were added to the box to supply additional manpower, with Engines 32 in station 23 and Schuylkill Engine 650 in station 22 on standby. Medic 6 provided rehab.
A two vehicle crash occurred at the intersection of Main and Market Streets (Route 209 and Route 225) in Elizabethville on May 22, 2007. A 19-year-old Halifax driver attempted to turn left from Route 209 onto Route 225. Although she had a green signal, she failed to yield the right of way to a vehicle being driven north on Route 209 by a 50-year-old Spring Glen man. The two cars collided.
An ATV accident occurred in Halifax Township on May 22, 2007. A 15-year-old girl was operating an ATV in the 600-block of Dunkel School Road, when she lost control of it on a curve. The ATV left the roadway, went down an embankment, and the girl was thrown from it. She was flown to Hershey Medical Center for treatment of her injuries. She also received a citation for using the ATV on a public road.
The boiler plate mills of the Central Iron and Steel Company were destroyed by fire on May 22, 1903, entailing a loss of $200,000. The fire started in the roof of the eighty-nine-inch mill, and spread with great rapidity, the timbers of the old mill and the grease-soaked material about the structures burning so fast that the men had barely given the alarm before the roof was in flames from end to end. The machinery was ruined and the structure wrecked.
