Fire, North Street

Structure Fire, 400 Wiconisco St (Box 23-11)

Engine and Tanker 22 were dispatched to assist Companies 23 and 24 with a structure fire at 400 Wiconisco Street in Wiconisco Township, at the Reinoehl residence. Engine 22 responded with a crew of seven and arrived on scene to find a house with smoke and flames coming from the second floor, and fire extension into the attic. Crews pulled ladders, set them up on side-2, and sent two crew members to the roof with a K-12 saw to vent the roof. Company 23 and 24 crews were working their way inside up toward the second floor, and Company 22 crew members entered through second floor windows. Extensive suppression, overhaul, and salvage was performed. The incident was initially reported over Med-9 radio by a Medic-6 crewmember. The cause of fire was determined to be from a small child playing with matches in the second floor bathroom. The toilet paper roll was ignited. Fire then spread to the curtains, up across the ceiling, and throughout the rest of the house.

Water Flow Alarm, 110 Reiff St (Box 22-3)

A water flow alarm was dispatched on a first alarm assignment at 110 Reiff Street at the Reiff and Nestor Plant in Lykens, bringing Companies 22, 23, 24, and Engine-20. Engine-22 responded with a crew of six, Truck-22 responded with a crew of seven, and Chief-22 responded POV. Chief-22 arrived on scene and investigated, finding alarms sounding in the building. Chief 22 de-activated the alarm bells, and re-directed Truck-22 to the plant pump house on South Street. The emergency pump was in operation, pumping water to the company dam. Plant maintenance arrived and the event was turned over to them, with all companies placed in service.

Accident with injuries, Greenland Rd & Chestnut Rd (Box 19-4)

Engine 19 and Rescue 23 dispatched class one to Greenland Road and Chestnut Road for a reported accident with injury on the 19-4 box. Engine 22 dispatched at the 6 minute mark in place of Engine 19. Engine 22 responded with 6 and Chief 22-1 POV, and Rescue 23 with 2. Rescue 21 responded as well, along with units from Schuylkill County. EMS on scene placed all fire units in service.

Multiple Structure Fires, 113 Armstrong Street (Box 29-6)

Engine 22 dispatched class one on the third alarm to the 29-6 box at 113 Armstrong Street in Halifax Boro for multiple structures on fire. Engine 22 responded with 3 and on approach was advised to stage the rig in the Playtimers parking lot and send manpower forward. On arrival, the crew staged the rig and went to the scene which involved 4 row homes, 2 separate dwellings and a garage all fully involved. Initially the crew teamed up with a crew from Company 21 for fire suppression and then was re-assigned to supplement the Truck 20 crew where they assisted with truck work for the remainder of the time spent on scene. Approximately 20 companies on scene. The crew continued with suppression, overhaul and salvage until released by Command 29.

AFA, 182 Engle Road (Box 21-5)

Company 22 and Truck 22 dispatched class one to 182 Engle Road in Washington Township at Goodwill Industries for an automatic fire alarm. Truck 22 responded with 6 and was canceled by Command 21 while enroute.

1934
Kinsinger Barn Fire - Jefferson Twp, Dauphin Co, PA

The large frame barn on the farm of John Kissinger, on the Elizabethville-Carsonville Road in Powells Valley, was struck by lightning during an electrical storm on Friday, June 22, 1934. Mr. Kissinger was at work on the first floor of the barn when the bolt struck the building. Fire resulted and the flames spread rapidly. In short time, fire enveloped the entire structure. A number of chickens, a bull, farm implements, a chicken house, and a pig stable were also destroyed.
