Structure Fire, North Street |

| | On the evening of Saturday, July 1, 1944, fire of unknown origin was discovered in the rear of the house on North Street owned by W. W. Erdman and tenanted by Mr. and Mrs. Leo Schmink. The fire had gained considerable headway by the time Liberty Hose Company arrived, but was soon brought under control and kept from spreading to the front of the home and to the adjoining building of the Lykens Hosiery Mills. The Wiconisco fire company also responded and assisted until all danger was past. Several hundred dollars damage was caused to the home, with no damage to the adjoining manufacturing plant. |

| | Engine-22 was dispatched to assist Company-23 on a gas grill fire on a rear porch. Engine-22 responded with a crew of six and arrived on scene after Engine-23. The Engine-22 crew assisted the Engine-23 crew with pulling a line to the rear of the residence to extinguish a fire that had spread from a gas grill to the porch soffet and siding. Fire was contained to rear porch area. After checking for extensions, the company was released by command. |

| | Engine 22 and Engine 23 were dispatched to an accident with injuries, a vehicle into a building near the square in Lykens. Engine 22 responded, and on arrival found a single car which had run into the steps on the Market Street side of the Gully Apartment Building. Engine 23 was placed in service. Two patients were in the vehicle, and the crew assisted with patient care until arrival of EMS units. After a wrecker removed vehicle from the sidewalk, Engine 22 went available. |

| | Company-22 and Company-23 were dispatched for an automatic fire alarm at the Mid Penn Bank on Main Street. Chief-22 on scene determined that alarm was a false trip and placed the box in service. Apparently, a small child yanked a pull station alarm while waiting inside the bank with an adult. |

| | Company 22 and Engine 23 dispatched to 260 Glen Park Road in Lykens Boro for a report of a tree on fire endangering a structure at the Dauphin County Glen Park. Chief 22-2 responded POV, and on arrival, confirmed a tree stump burning and spreading to a structure less then 1 foot away. EMS from Medic 6 responded with 2 and on arrival, dumped two dry chemical extinguishers on the fire and knocked down most of the fire. Engine 22 responded with 5 and on arrival, pulled a trash line and extinguished the remaining fire. Command placed Engine 23 available. Crew pulled the stump apart to check for smoldering remains. A staff member from Dauphin County Parks and Recreation arrived on the scene and the crew was able to gain access to the structure. They found no extensions. After confirming that the stump was out and no extensions were found to the structure, command placed the box available. |

| | Company 22 and Engine 23 dispatched class one to 300 Chestnut Street in Lykens at the Alfa Laval Thermal Plant for an automatic fire alarm. Chiefs 22 and 22-1 responded POV to the scene. Engine 22 went enroute with 4. Engine 23 and Truck 22 also responded. Chief 22-1 arrived on scene with normal conditions. Engine 23 was placed in service. After a check of the facility found nothing the box was placed in service by command. |

| | Company 22 dispatched class one on the 24-7 box along with Dauphin companies 21 and 23 and 24 and Schuylkill companies Muir, Sheridan, Reinerton and Joliet for a propane leak at Koppys Propane at 8635 Route 209 in Williams Township. Truck and Engine 22 responded and on arrival assisted other companies in tracking down the source of the leak. The leak was found and secured and command placed the box available. |

Two additional members were standing by in Station 22. On arrival The Chief found several wires down that appeared to be communication lines. On arrival of the Utility they cleared the wires from the roadway and Command placed the box available. |

| | Dauphin County 911 paged Chief 22 requesting a call in regarding someone at 212 North Second Street that had an issue. Chief 22 contacted the homeowner and after discussing her situation with her determined that no fire company response was needed and cleared the call. |

Structure Fire, 344 East Market St (Box 27-1) |

| | Truck 22 dispatched class one on the 27-1 box to 344 East Market Street in Gratz for a structure fire. Multiple calls began reporting a second structure involved and a first alarm was struck. Engine and Utility 22 were added to the call. Truck 22 responded with 7, Engine 22 with 3 and Utility 22 with 2. On arrival of the Truck they took the A/D corner and pulled all the ladders and set them on the D side exposure. The Truck was then re positioned on the A/B side and the aerial went to work with water being supplied by Engine 27. Truck 20 set up on the C side of the structures and was supplied by Engine 26. The initial fire building was a 2 and one half story wood frame single family dwelling fully involved. The D side exposure was a single story rancher with fire into the B side of the structure. The property on the B side of the original fire building across Cherry Street also had some heat damage as well. Crews assisted with fire extinguishment for quite some time on a very warm evening with high humidity. The original fire building was heavily damaged. The rancher had extensive damage to the B side. After the bulk of the heavy fire was knocked down the Truck crew assisted with overhaul. This continued until the Company was released by command 27. |
