1987
Structure Fire, 403 Pine St (Box 22-1)
Detail >>
Companies 22 & 23 were dispatched to a reported structure fire at the Brobroski residence in Lykens Borough. Engine 22 responded with a crew of seven and accessed the scene via Pine Street from Main Street and found a 2? story wood frame single family dwelling with fire coming from the second floor and attic windows. Engine 23 responded and staged at the intersection of Pine and North Second Streets and sent their crew into the front entrance on the first floor. Engine 22-1 responded with a crew of two, hit the hydrant in front of the former elementary school, and laid into the rear of side 2 of the structure, where they placed a 2? inch line in service. The crew from Engine 22 laddered side 3 of the building and entered the second floor from a balcony. The crew advanced to the base of the attic staircase, where they were met by heavy fire. Chief 22 struck the second alarm, bringing Companies 21 and 24. The crew ran out of air before advancing up the stairwell, and a second team took their place. The staircase was burnt out and advancement was difficult. Crews from Company 21 and 24 arrived and assisted with interior operations. Crews made headway to the attic, and extinguished the bulk of the fire. Extensive overhaul was needed, with the attic and most of the second floor having been heavily damaged. There was smoke and water damage to first floor as well, and damage to the side 2 portion of the roof, where fire had burned through. Crews continued with overhaul until they were released by command.
