Car into a house, Route 209

Company 22 dispatched to the area of Route 209 near Elizabethville for a report of a car that had went off the road and struck the Anna Reigle house. A 1967 car operated by Karl Sierer of Williamstown was traveling west when it when off the road, hit a telephone pole, continued into the side of a house where he was thrown from the car. The gas tank was separated from the car and landed on the highway where it caught fire. Engine 22 responded to the scene and on arrival extinguished the fire.

Automatic Fire Alarm, 3000 Powells Valley Road (Box 19-1)

Company 19 and Truck 22 dispatched to Jefferson Township, 3000 Powells Valley Road, for an automatic fire alarm. Truck 22 responded with 7 and Chief 22 POV. As the Truck was passing Chief 22-1's camp at Powells Valley Road and Back Road, the Truck was placed in service by command.

Smoke in a structure, 506 West Market Street (Box 24-3)

Truck 22 dispatched class one on the 24-3 box for a report of smoke in the bathroom of 506 West Market Street in Williams Township. This also alerted companies 24, 23, and Schuylkill 647. Chief 24-1 placed the box in service before response. The sewer authority was testing pipes in Williamstown and that was the cause of the smoke.

Medical Assist, 913 Main Street (Box 22-1)

At the request of 24 EMS on scene, Company 22 dispatched class one to 913 Main Street in Lykens for a medical assist for extrication. Chief 22 and Lieutenant 22-1 responded POV to the scene. Engine 22 responded with 3. Utility 22 went enroute with 1 and was canceled by Chief 22. On arrival the Engine was instructed by EMS to approach from the C side of the structure in the alley. The crew assisted EMS with moving the patient to their unit for transport to the hospital. Command then placed Company 22 available.

Medical Assist, 162 Lenker Drive (Box 24-3)

At the request of Chief 24, Utility 22 dispatched class one to 162 Lenker Drive in Williams Township to assist with a cardiac arrest AED EMS call. Utility 22 responded with 4 and Engine 22 with 2. On arrival the crew staged the rigs and went interior to assist with CPR. Crew performed CPR until a signal 12 was called by EMS. The crew then went available.

Flooding, 403 S. 2nd St (Box 22-1)

Company 22 dispatched class three to 403 South Second Street in Lykens for a flooded basement. Utility 22 responded with 3 and two members responded POV. On arrival the crew set up two pumps and cleared the water from the basement before going available.

Flooding, 187 North St (Box 22-1)

While in station having just returned from a previous pump detail, a walk in advised of a flooded basement at 187 North Street in the Boro. Utility 22 responded with 3 and 3 members went enroute POV. On arrival, the basement was pumped out and the company then went available.

AFA, 4955 Route 209 (Box 21-5)

Company 21 and Truck 22 dispatched class one to 4955 Route 209 at the Tractor Supply store for an automatic fire alarm. Truck 22 responded with 6 and was advised by command that upon their arrival to set up behind Engine 21 on side A. On arrival at a 100 foot by 200 foot one story concrete commercial store they had nothing showing. Command had the crew split up and assist with a check of the interior while the boom was sent to the roof to check the HVAC units. Nothing was found on the roof. After completing an interior search and finding nothing command placed the box in service.

Structure Fire, 512 Market Street (Box 22-1)

Local alarm dispatched class one to 512 Market street in Lykens for a report of smoke in a structure. This brought Engine and Truck 22, Engine and Rescue 23, Engine 24 and Rescue 21 with Company 27 for RIT. Chief 22 arrived on scene simultaneous with the dispatch after spotting a smoke column and reported a working first floor structure fire. County upgraded the box to first alarm adding Engine and Rescue 27, Engine 21 and Truck 20. Engine 22 responded with 4 and tagged the hydrant at the train station and arrived side A/B and pulled an inch and three quarter line and went in the front door. They also supplied Truck 22 through a 5 inch line. Truck 22 arrived by way of Main street on the A/D corner and set up to vent the roof. At this point fire had involved the entire front of the structure. Rescue 23 arrived behind the Truck and tagged the hydrant on the square and pulled two hand lines. Engine 24 arrived and staged on South Third and Market and sent manpower to side C. Engine 21 arrived by way of the Mid Penn parking lot to South Third street and took side C. Truck 20 arrived and backed into the parking lot along side of Ciaos pizzeria and set up on the C side and went to the roof. Engine 27 staged in the same parking lot and supplied Engine 21 and Truck 20 from a 5 inch line they dropped from the 500 block of Main street. Air 23 set up behind Engine 21. Engines 22-11 and 22-15 from Schuylkill County arrived and staged sending their manpower to side A manpower officer Chief 27-1. Chief 23-1 had the C sector. Squad 216 was dispatched as a replacement piece and arrived and staged near Station 22 and sent manpower forward. EMS set up rehab at Market and South Second streets. Crews worked together knocking down fire, venting, and overhauling the structure which was very labor intensive. PPL pulled all the meters from the building which was a 33 foot by 41 foot 3 story balloon wood frame apartment building with 4 individual units. All occupants were able to escape unharmed. Knockdown was achieved and overhaul was ongoing until eventually control was marked. A fire marshal was requested to the scene. Units began to be released and eventually the box was placed available. Units on scene: Truck 20 Engine, Rescue and Utility 21 Squad 216 Engine, Truck and Utility 22 Rescue, Air and Utility 23 Engine 24 Engine and Rescue 27 Schuylkill Engine 22-11 and Squad 22-61 Schuylkill Engine 22-15 and Rescue 22-55 Medic 6 EMS 24 and Rehab 24-40 Standbys: Cumberland Truck 17 at Station 20 Perry Engine 6 at Station 21 Schuylkill Engine 67-10 at Station 24
2024
AFA, 50 Reiff Street (Box 22-1)

While Company 22 was at the fire at 512 Market street in Lykens Boro (see incident #118) County Communications advised of an automatic fire alarm received for the Reiff and Nestor Plant at 50 Reiff street in Lykens. Command 22 had Rescue 27 re directed to take in the AFA and handle the call. County reported it to be a water flow alarm, most likely cause by several hydrants being opened at the Market street incident. Rescue 27 arrived at the facility, a manufacturing plant 50 foot by 150 foot one story concrete block building that was closed for the holiday with normal conditions from the exterior. After gaining entry and checking the building and finding no problems they were able to silence the alarm but it remained in trouble mode. Chief 27 cleared the event and Rescue 27 responded to the 512 Market street incident.
