Medical Assist, 512 Market Street (Box 22-1)

Company-22 was dispatched for a medical assist to a basement apartment located at 512 Market Street, where there was a patient reported to be in cardiac arrest. Engine-22 responded with a crew of six and chiefs 22-1 and 22-2 responded POV. The engine arrived on the scene first and the crew performed initial patient assessment, after which EMS arrived and assumed patient care. The engine crew continued assisting the medical crew and later helped move the patient to the transport unit.

Automatic Fire Alarm, 7116 Powells Valley Rd (Box 216-8)

The commercial box was dispatched on the 216-8 box for an automatic fire alarm at the Lykens Water Authority Plant at 7116 Powell's Valley Road in Jackson Township. The box called for Engine and Truck 22, Engine, Tanker and Rescue 23, and Tanker 24, class one. Chief 22 responded POV to the scene. Engine 22 responded with 4 and Truck 22 with 4. As the units were leaving the station, Command placed the box in service. An employee had accidentally activated the alarm and there was no emergency.

Automatic Fire Alarm, 3000 Powells Valley Rd (Box 19-1)

Company 19 and Truck 22 dispatched class one to 3000 Powell's Valley Road in Jefferson Township for an automatic fire alarm. Engine 19-1 responded with 3, Brush 19 with 3, and Truck 22 with 7. Truck 22 was canceled by Command 19 while enroute.

Sparks from an appliance, 606 North Street (Box 22-1)

Company 22 and Engine 23 for the out of service Engine 22 dispatched class one to 606 North Street in Lykens Boro for a report of sparks coming from a baseboard electric baseboard unit in a residence. Chief 22-2 responded from his residence across the street to a 2 story half a duplex wood frame dwelling with nothing evident from the outside side A. The occupants met him at the front door and investigation of the interior found a baseboard unit on the D side of the building that had shorted out. Truck 22 responded with 7 and Utility 22 with 4. Chief 22 responded POV and on his arrival he assumed command and placed Engine 23 in service. The Truck arrived on side A and sent a crew to the basement to confirm that power to the heating unit was shut off. Utility 22 arrived and staged on Market Street. After further investigation command placed the box in service.

The Lykens Liberty Hose Company No. 2 Band presented a concert for the pleasure of the senior citizens of the valley at Forman's Park in Lykens at 2 o'clock on Sunday afternoon, September 4, 1974.
