Garage Fire, West Lykens (Enders)

On the night of Monday, November 20, 1945, at 10:55 p.m.,fire was discovered in a large outbuilding on the property of James Enders in West Lykens. Both Lykens and Wiconisco firemen responded and did everything possible to save the structure, which burned rapidly due to high winds. The Lykens firemen pumped water from the swimming pool, while the Wiconisco firemen used their booster equipment. The building, which was completely destroyed by the fire, had been undergoing renovations and was having a concrete floor installed in preparation to be used as a garage and repair shop. All equipment and tools were saved. The loss was not covered by insurance.

Fire, Charles Paul's, Big Run

Fire of undetermined origin, but believed to have started near the chimney, completely gutted the interior of the Big Run home of Charles Paul on Sunday afternoon, November 20, 1960. The Lykens fire company responded to the alarm sent in at about 1:40PM. Hampered by the lack of water at the site of the fire, the Wiconisco fire company was also called to the scene. The use of the booster tanks on both fire trucks was the only thing that prevented the structure from being completely destroyed. The interior was gutted, and most of the furniture and appliances were destroyed according to the report of the fire chief, Elwood Miller. The structure had at one time been used as a small service station, but for some time past, Mr. Paul had been using it as his residence. No one was injured, according to reports.

Tanker 22 was dispatched to a saw mill fire in Orwin, Porter Township, Schuylkill County. The Tanker responded with a crew of two and assisted with a water shuttle to the fire scene until released by Command at 6:25PM. Meanwhile, at 3:41PM, Engine 22 was placed on standby in quarters, and eight minutes later was requested to relocate to Station 66. Engine 22 relocated to Sheridan's Station 66 and remained there until released by Chief 66 at 10:54PM.

Tanker-22 was dispatched in place of Tanker-216 for a report of a hay shed filling up with smoke in Wayne Township. The tanker was canceled while enroute.

Medical Assist, 329 Market Street (Rear) (Box 22-1)

Company-22 was requested by EMS to assist with the extrication of a patient from a second floor apartment in what was known as the old Lykens Dairy. Engine-22 responded since the truck was unavailable, out of the area for training purposes in Frackville. Engine-22 personnel performed the extrication using a stokes, ropes, and carabiners to remove the patient from the second floor to the ambulance.

Company 22 dispatched to 245 South Second Street in Lykens for a reported cardiac arrest. Truck 22 responded with 5, and moments after going enroute were placed available by EMS, no patient found.
2011
Medical Assist, 801 Market Street (Box 22-2)

At the request of Medic 6, Company 22 and 23 dispatched class three to 801 Market Street in Lykens to assist with lifting an extremely obese patient. Chief 22 and Lieutenant 22 responded POV to the scene, Engine 22 responded with 3, and Rescue 23 responded with 7. Chief 22 arrived on scene and took command. He then requested Rescue 21 for additional manpower. Rescue 21 responded with 7. The crews on scene lifted the patient from his bathroom to a chair in the living room, and went available.

Pedestrian Struck, 415 Market Street (Box 22-1)

Engine 22 dispatched class one to assist EMS with a pedestrian struck in the 400 block of Market Street in Lykens. All three chiefs responded POV to the scene, and Engine 22 went enroute with 6. On arrival, the crew assisted Medic 6 with packaging the patient and transferring them to their unit for a trip to the hospital. Command then placed the box available.

Vehicle Accident - Lykens, PA

An automobile accident occurred at 1:30 p.m. on Wednesday, November 20, 1968, on Main Street in Lykens, in the vicinity of Donley's Body Shop. A Chevrolet driven by Mae Reiner, of Wiconisco, was struck in the rear by a 1968 Pontiac Grand Prix driven by Evelyn Chamberlain, of Metuchen, New Jersey. The accident resulted in several hundred dollars damage.
