Millersburg Fireman were called to South Front Street at 8:50 p.m. when a street light at Allman's Grocery Store started burning. Wires were burned off of the pole and power was knocked out to the area. Then twenty minutes later, a street light started burning at Pine and Walnut Streets, setting the pole on fire.
In Oak Orchard, Delaware, eleven family members died when fire swept through their home at 3 a.m. on January 3, 2001. Fire started in the kitchen in the single-story ranch house near Indian River Bay. One of the family members called 911 to report the fire. Firefighters quickly put out the blaze and found body after body. Rescue workers performed CPR on some of the victims in a failed effort to revive them. The deceased represented four generations of the family, and included seven children ranging in age from an infant to a 6-year-old.
