Moyer Home Fire - Dauphin, PA

On January 18, 1958, the frame house belonging to Mrs. Verna Moyer, in Dauphin, Pennsylvania was destroyed by fire. The loss was $5,000.00. The Dauphin-Middle Paxton Fire Company was assisted by the Rescue from Estherton Fire Company. (Rescue Co. 37)

A devastating house fire which killed 13 young people during a birthday party in New Cross, south east London occurred on Sunday January 18, 1981. The party was a joint birthday celebration for Yvonne Ruddick (who died) and Angela Jackson (who survived) and was held at 439 New Cross Road, going on throughout the night. The initial police suspicion was that the party had been bombed either as a revenge attack or to stop the noise.

Lightning strikes started 160 fires in the Brindabella and Namadgi National Parks to the west of the Australian Capital Territory. High winds and high temperatures pushed the fires. The fires entered the suburbs of Canberra (Australia's Capital) on January 18, 2003. In the ten hours after that, four people died and more than 500 homes were destroyed or severely damaged. Almost 70% of the Australian Capital Territory?s pasture, forests and nature parks were severely damaged, and most of Mount Stromlo Observatory was destroyed.
