A vacant four-story building formerly occupied by the Blough-Wagner Manufacturing Company at Fifth and Reily Streets in Harrisburg was gutted by fire on December 31, 1971. The remaining building was torn down a week later.
The Dupont Plaza Hotel fire was a fire that occurred at the Hotel Dupont Plaza on New Year's Eve, December 31, 1986. The fire was started by three disgruntled employees of the hotel that were in the middle of a labor dispute with the owners. In the end, the fire claimed 97 lives and caused 140 injuries. This is considered to be the most catastrophic hotel fire in Puerto Rican history.
