Fire, Valeska/Reigle, Wiconisco

Seven fire companies fought a blaze in Wiconisco Tuesday afternoon, March 18, 1941, in a building owned by Mr Frank Valeska and also the Reigle home. Damage to the Valeska building exceeded $800, while damage to the Reigle home, which was almost completely demolished, was in excess of $4,000. The blaze was difficult to get under control because of strong wind.

Engine 22 was dispatched to clean up debris on Main Street near Don's Food Rite. A truck dropped stones and dirt on the roadway. Engine 22 responded and cleaned up the debris.
2009
Vehicle Fire, 683 Main Street (Box 22-3)

Company 22 was dispatched to the parking lot of the Northern Dauphin Library at 683 Main Street in Lykens for a reported pickup truck on fire. The driver of the truck had purchased it the day before, and was driving it home. When going past the Library on Arch Street, he heard a pop from the hood and saw smoke. He pulled into the empty parking lot and lifted the hood to find the vehicle in flames, and called 911. Engine 22 responded with a crew of six and set up on Spruce Street. One 2-inch line was pulled and the truck, by then well involved, was extinguished. Medic 620 and Lykens PD were also on scene. After extinguishing the fire, the crew assisted with cleanup. After the truck was towed away, Engine 22 went available.

Structure Fire, 1530 Pottsville Street (Box 23-3)

Companies 23 and 22, Engines 21 and 27 and 24 EMS dispatched class one to 1530 Pottsville Street in Wiconisco Township on the 23-3 box for a reported structure fire. Chiefs 23 and 23-1 went POV to the scene and shortly after they arrived on scene they held the box to Company 23.

Chimney Fire, 1473 Mountain House Road (Box 19-3)

At the request of Chief 19-1 the Truck and his company were dispatched class one to 1473 Mountain House Road in Jefferson Township for a reported chimney fire. Truck 22 responded with 7 and Engine 19-1 with 5 and Brush 19. Tanker 29 was also on the call with 2. Two additional 22 members responded POV. Chief 19 on scene confirmed a chimney fire with some smoke in the basement. Truck 22 arrived and staged on Mountain House Road and sent their manpower with tools, air packs, fan and TIC on Brush 19 to the residence which was back a narrow lane. Crew went to the roof and ran chimney chains to clear it out. After completing their task, Command released the Truck so they could respond to another call (see next call).

Smoke in a Structure, 422 Elizabeth Street (Box 24-1)

While the Truck was working the 19 box (see previous call) the 24-1 box was dispatched class one to 422 Elizabeth Street in Williamstown for smoke in a structure. Engine 22 responded with 6 with 3 additional members POV. Truck 22 was released by Command 19 and responded from there with 7. On the arrival of Engine 22 at a double wide modular single family residence there was nothing showing and Company 24 members interior. Crew assisted with investigation and ventilation using the TIC. A shorted out water heater was found and the fire was out. Truck 22 was placed in service while enroute. The Engine crew assisted Company 24 until released by command.

Medical Assist, 316 South 2nd St (Box 22-1)
Detail >>
Company 22 dispatched class three to 316 South Second Street in Lykens to assist EMS Company 24 with lifting. Utility 22 responded with 3 and on arrival assisted the 24 crew with lifting a patient and then went available.
