Car Fire, 620 South Second Street (Box 22-1)

Engine 22 was dispatched to a car fire in the alley next to the former Lykens Standard office. The vehicle belonged to Lamar Nye. A majority of the normal active crew was at Emmitsburg Maryland at the National Fire Academy, and some of the senior active members responded with Engine 22-1 and extinguished the fire, which was confined to the engine compartment.

Tree Down, 636 North Second Street (Box 22-1)

Engine-22 was dispatched to a home at 636 North Second Street for a tree that had fallen through a second floor bedroom. The engine crew assisted with limb and tree removal from the structure.
2014
Structure Fire, 215 East Market Street (Box 27-1)
Detail >>
Company 27, 26, 28, Rescue 23 and Truck 22 dispatched class one to 215 East Market Street in Gratz for a structure fire. Truck 22 responded with 7, and on arrival took the address and set up to go to the roof, while the crew split and laddered the 4 sides of the building. Initial crews had the fire knocked, and the Truck crew provided PPV to the structure. After completing ventilation, The Truck was released by command in order to respond to the call being dispatched in Lykens for a medical assist (see next call).
2014
Medical Assist, 801 Market Street (Box 22-2)

While the Truck crew was clearing the scene of the previous call in Gratz, a medical assist call was dispatched in Lykens at 801 Market Street. Power was out in the region and the patient at that address was experiencing problems. Lieutenant 22 responded POV, Utility 22 responded with 4, and after clearing the Gratz call Truck 22 went enroute with 7. Rescue 23 was also dispatched to the call. Command 22 placed the Truck in Service, having all ready completed the assist to EMS with transferring the patient to Medic 6's transport unit.

AFA, 601 Main Street (Box 22-1)

Company 22 dispatched class one to 601 Main Street in Lykens Boro for an automatic fire alarm. Chiefs 22 and 22-2 responded POV to the scene. On arrival at a 4 story 75 ft by 100 ft high rise apartment building they were met by the building manager that advised they were testing the system. Chief 22 placed the box in service.

Gas Leak, 8635 Route 209 (Box 24-7)

Company 22 dispatched class one on the 24-7 box to 8635 Route 209 in Williams Township to Koppys Propane for a reported gas leak. Engine 22 responded with 5 and Truck 22 with 5 and shortly after response were placed available by command 24.

Summit Branch Mine Fire - Williams Twp, Dauphin Co, PA

Fire was discovered on Tuesday, June 5, 1934, in the No. 10 slope of the M.A. Hanna & Co. colliery (Summit Branch Colliery) at Williamstown. Crews of firemen fought the blaze, which was confined to the slope area. The fire was brought under control on Saturday, June 9, 1934. The work of combating the blaze was in charge of R.A. Hedland, superintendent of the colliery. State mine inspection officials were also present during the week.
1949
Plane Crash - Washington Twp, Dauphin Co, PA

At around 4:20 p.m. on Sunday June 5, 1949, a light plane that took off from the Gratz airport crashed into Sharp Mountain one mile west of Lykens, killing the pilot, Robert Weaver, 20, of Lykens and his passenger, John Hoffman, 21, of Williamstown.
