Tanker 22 was dispatched to the village of Reinerton, in Porter Township, Schuylkill County, for a structure fire at the Cortez residence. All Porter Township companies (Reinerton, Sheridan, Muir, Orwin, Joliett), Tower City, Williamstown, and Wiconisco fire companies were also on scene. Tanker 22 responded with a crew of three, and was directed to dump water into company 24's porta-tank set up on Grand Avenue to supply engines working the fire. Williamstown's second engine set up a fill site near the Wiconisco Creek south of Tower City, and operated there filling tankers. Numerous loads of water were shuttled to and dumped at the scene. Engine 22 was requested to go on standby in quarters while everyone was working at the scene. An aerial truck response was requested by command, and a truck from Minersville, along with a supply engine, was dispatched to the scene. Fire had spread from the basement throughout all three floors of the building, with a severe exposure problem on side-2 of another occupied residence only four feet away. Fire did not extend beyond the building of origin, which was destroyed. Tanker 22 continued to supply loads of water until released by Chief 68 (Reinerton).
Truck 22, Engine 23, and Rescue 66 were dispatched to assist Company 24 on a chimney fire at a commercial business located in Williamstown. Truck 22 responded with a crew of seven, and Chief 22 responded POV. On arrival, the Truck crew was instructed by command to set up on side A and ladder the building to check the chimney while the crew from Company 24 was interior pulling the pipe from a wood burner. The crew checked the chimney and found it to be clear. Command released the truck and Company 24's crew remained on the scene to clean out the interior pipes.
2008
Building Collapse, Pottsville and Plane Streets (Box 23-1)
At the request of Chief 23, Truck 22 was dispatched to assist Rescue 23 with securing the roof of a four story building that was once known as "Page's Store" at the corner of Plane and Pottsville Streets in Wiconisco. Truck 22 responded with a crew of six, and set up on side-A. A crew went to the roof to help screw down numerous sections of tin roofing that were blown loose by high winds in the area. After securing the roof, the Truck went available.
Engine and Truck 22 and Engine and Rescue 23 dispatched class one to 15 South Second street in Lykens at the Rattling Creek Apartments for a fire alarm sounding in one of the apartments. Engine 22 responded with 4 and truck 22 with 3. Rescue 23 went enroute with 5 and Engine 23 also responded. Engine 22 arrived on side D at a 4 story 63 foot by 124 foot apartment building with nothing showing and sent their crew interior. Truck 22 arrived on side A, retrieved the keys from the knox box and set up command in the lobby. Engine and Rescue 23 staged at the hydrant at Main and Arlington streets. Engine crew found an apartment on the fourth floor with a detector sounding. Further investigation found the detector to be faulty. It was disconnected and control was marked. The building manager was notified who advised that maintenance would be contacted to make repairs. Command placed the box available.
Engine 22, Rescue 23 and Tower 20 for the out of service Tower 22 dispatched class one to 300 Main street in Lykens for an electrical outlet smoking. Caller advised that the outlet previously had been sparking. Engine 22 responded with 3 and arrived on the D side of the structure, a 38 foot by 54 foot wood frame 3 story multi family apartment unit with normal conditions from the exterior. Captain 22 had the command. After an interior investigation it was found to be a problem in one outlet and the power had been secured to it. Further investigation found no problems throughout the rest of the building. The box was placed available.
