2022
Outside smoke investigation, 553 South Second St (Box 22-1)

Company 22 dispatched class three to the general area of Station 22 for a report of smoke outside. Several members responded to the station and began investigating and not initially finding anything. The caller was on scene and reported a smell of something burning and a haze in the area near South Second and Market Streets. Further investigation found the source of the haze and smoke, an un attended smoldering fire to the rear of 608 South Second Street. After extinguishing it, the Company was placed available.
2021
Medical Assist, Glen Park Rd (Box 22-3)

At the request of Lieutenant 22-1 on scene Company 22 dispatched class one to the Glen Park Road by the second bridge in Lykens Boro for a medical assist. Chief 22 responded POV and Utility 22 went enroute with 4. Three additional members responded to the scene POV. On arrival, the crew assisted Medic 6 with patient care and controlled traffic for PSP until a wrecker removed a vehicle on the bridge. Command then placed the company available.

Explosion, 387 Arch Street (Box 23-1)

Company 22 dispatched class one to 387 Arch Street in Wiconisco Township at Station 23 for an explosion. Chief 23 requested all units dispatched to hold in quarters. Engine, Truck and Utility 22 held in quarters with 15 members until released by Chief 23.

CO Alarm, 922 Main Street (Box 22-2)

While crew members were still in station cleaning up from the previous two calls of the day the Company was dispatched to 922 Main Street in Lykens for a report of a CO alarm sounding. Engine 22 responded with 5, Truck 22 with 6, and Utility 22 with 1. On arrival at a 1 story ranch style single family dwelling Chief 22 found the occupants outside. A check of the building with meters found no CO. It was determined to be a faulty detector and Command placed the box in service.

Medical Assist, 444 North Street (Box 22-1)

While a crew from the Company was working a structure fire in Reinerton Schuylkill County with the Truck and Utility, a call came in for a medical assist at 444 North Street in Lykens Boro. Chief 22 released The Utility and it went enroute back to the Boro with 4. Chief 22 also requested that Company 23 be added to the call and they responded with Rescue and Chief 23. Chief 23 arrived on scene and assumed command and had Utility 22 reduce their response to class three. After their arrival on scene Command was transferred to Chief 22-1 and Company 23 went available. Crew remained on scene until arrival of EMS and then went available.

Structure Fire, 1219 E Grand Ave (Box S.C.)

Truck 22 dispatched class one along with Rescue 21 to 1219 East Grand Avenue in Reinerton Porter Township Schuylkill County for a structure fire. Truck 22 responded with 7, Utility 22 with 1, and 4 members POV. Truck 22 arrived on scene side A of a 2 and one half story wood frame single family dwelling with heavy smoke pushing out of the A, B, and D exposure windows. Muir was set up on side A with Orwin and Tower City set up to the rear of the structure and they made the initial attack on the fire which was originally blowing out the front A/D corner. Schuylkill Command 22-3 requested the tanker task force which added tankers from 23 and 24 on the Dauphin side and Donaldson Engine for the fill site. The Truck crew pulled all ladders and set them up on all sides of the structure while crew members went with Rescue 21 crew interior to the second and third floors. A Truck crew went to the roof and vented at multiple locations. The bulk of the fire was knocked down quickly in the 90 degree outside temps. Extensive overhaul was performed by multiple companies including 23 and 24 along with Schuylkill units. Crew members continued overhaul until a call in Lykens Boro was received (see next 2020 call) and some were diverted to that. The remaining crew members continued overhaul until released by command.

Medical Assist, 616 Parkview Road (Box 22-2)

At the request of Chief 22, Company 22 dispatched class three to 616 Parkview Lane in Lykens Boro for a medical assist, forcible entry. Truck 22 responded with 7 and Chiefs 22 and 22-1 were on the scene POV. On arrival, the Truck crew secured entry into the residence for the transport crew returning a patient to their home, and then went available.
2010
Structure Fire with LODD, 342 Dietrich Avenue (Box S.C.)

Truck 22 dispatched on the first alarm to assist at the scene of a working structure fire at 342 Dietrich Avenue in the Village of Orwin in Porter Township, Schuylkill County. All ready dispatched were Schuylkill companies Orwin, Muir, Joliett, and Tower City and Sheridan along with Tanker 24 from Williamstown. Truck 22 responded with 5, plus 2 POV. On arrival the crew was presented with a duplex home fully involved, and they set up the Truck on side A and were supplied by Orwin Engine 655. Crews worked at extinguishment in the 90 degree temperatures for several hours, with numerous additional companies called in to assist with manpower. Fire was venting throughout the duplex structure, and efforts were concentrated on saving exposures and they were successful in preventing the fire from spreading beyond the original fire buildings. Companies dispatched and either on scene or on standby included: Orwin, Muir, Joliett, Sheridan, Reinerton, Tower City, Lykens, Wiconisco, Williamstown, Eville, Dauphin, Gratz, Pine Grove, Lewellyn, Donaldson, Tremont, Hegins, Newtown. Millersburg and Fisherville on standby for Dauphin. Altamont Engine and Pottsville City Ladder on standby for Schuylkill. Crew remained on scene assisting where needed until released by command 655. During this event, a line of duty death occurred when Doug Smith of Williamstown company 24 suffered a cardiac arrest at their station while preparing to respond to this call.

Automatic Alarm, R & N Plant (Box 22-3)

Companies 22 and 23 were dispatched to the Reiff and Nestor Plant for a water flow alarm. Chief 22 responded POV, and was advised that plant maintenance had accidentally set off the alarm. Engine 22 responded followed by Engine 23. Truck 22 responded after a second dispatch. Chief 22 then placed the box in service.

Accident - Car vs. Coal Truck - Washington Twp, Dauphin Co, PA

On Monday night, July 9, 1934, an automobile driven by Maude Miller, of Tower City, collided with a coal truck, occupied by O.W. Kriswell of Halifax and Earl Singer of Dauphin, on Tannery Hill, five miles east of Elizabethville. Mrs. Miller was taken to the Harrisburg Hospital suffering from a severe laceration of the forehead and lacerations of the right knee, both hands, and chin. Her eight year old son, Bruce, who was also in the accident, was treated for a deep laceration of the scalp. Three other passengers in the car were treated at the office of an Elizabethville physician.

On July 9, 1934, a truck driven by Gabriel Horvath of New Brunswick, New Jersey, trying to avoid collision with another truck which had hit a telephone pole and water hydrant, swerved into an oncoming Ford driven by Earl Hand of Tower City. Hand was fatally injured. Horvath was sentenced for involuntary manslaughter on November 17, 1934.
