Medical Assist, 15 South 2nd St (Box 22-1)

At the request of Medic 6 on scene Company 22 dispatched class three to 15 South Second Street at the Rattling Creek Apartments in Lykens for a lift assist. Engine 22 responded with 4, Utility 22 with 2, Truck 22 with 5, and Chief 22 and Captain 22 POV. On arrival, the crew assisted EMS with the removal of a patient from their apartment to the transport unit and then went available.
2012
Accident with injuries, 419 North Street (Box 22-1)

Company 22, Rescues 23 and 21, and EMS dispatched class one for a reported one vehicle accident with injuries and entrapment at 419 North Street in Lykens. Chief 22 responded POV, Engine 22 with 6, and Utility 22 with 5. On arrival, crew found an SUV on its roof in the middle of the street, having struck a parked car and rolled over. The driver was still in the vehicle, but was not trapped. Patient contact was made and the driver immobilized while the rest of the crews from 22 and 23 cribbed and stabilized the vehicle. Rescue 21 was placed in service shortly after their arrival. Patient was removed from the vehicle and turned over to EMS, and crews assisted Recovery 21 with cleanup and removal of the vehicles from the roadway and then went available.

Stove fire, 101 West Market Street (Box 24-1)

On the 24-1 box, companies 24, 23, 22, 21, and 66 were dispatched to 101 West Market Street for a reported stove fire in a multi-family residence. Truck 22 responded with 6, and was advised by command as they were entering Williamstown to stage at the Medical Center parking lot on Water Street, where they remained until released by command.

Commercial AFA, 549A Main Street (Box 22-1)

Company 22, Engines 23 and 24 dispatched to 549A Main Street at a photography shop for a fire alarm sounding. Chief 22-2 on scene reporting an audible alarm sounding. Engine 22 responded with 3 and approached from the Pine Street side and staged on side A at the hydrant. Engine 23 responded and staged at the hydrant at Main and Market. Engine 24 was canceled enroute when Chief 22 arrived on scene. Owner arrived on scene and provided entry to the building. A smoke alarm at the top of the stairway to the second floor was found activated as a result of heavy condensation and water vapor on a glass door directly below it. Command 22 placed the box in service.

Tanker 22 was dispatched to Wiconisco Township for a fuel spill. Chief 23 requested Tanker 22 to hold in quarters. The tanker stood by in quarters until released by Chief 23.

Flood - Lykens, PA

As a result of heavy rains, the Bear, Wiconisco, and Rattling Creeks flooded Lykens on Friday, August 17, 1867. Bear Creek overflowed its banks and cut courses through the piles of coal dirt. Coal dirt was washed into the yards and streets, and even some houses, in Lykens. The concrete bridge over Bear Creek, used by the Short Mountain Colliery was washed away. The railroad bridge over Rattling Creek had its center trestle washed away. Deposits of coal dirt ruined all the low lands along the Wiconisco Creek west of Lykens. Matter's sawmill dam and the dam at the Forge were also filled up with coal dirt.
