Company 22 dispatched class one to 600 Main Street in Lykens at the Union House Apartments for a medical assist. EMS had an extended ETA. Utility 22 responded with 3, Truck 22 with 4, and two members POV. On arrival the crew made patient contact and initiated care and took some vitals. The crew continued with the patient until the arrival of Tremont EMS and then went available.
Engine and Truck 22 and Engine 23 along with EMS dispatched class one to 300 Chestnut Street in Lykens to the Alfa Laval Thermal Corp plant for an automatic fire alarm. Engine 22 responded with 6 and took side A, and Truck 22 responded with 6 and set up on the D side by the machine shop, which was the location of the alarm bells sounding. The main plant building was evacuated. After a walk through with the plant maintenance supervisor, the alarm was determined to be false and the box placed available.

Accident with no injuries, 807 Main Street (Box 22-1)
At the request of PSP, 22 fire police were requested to assist PSP with traffic control in front of 807 Main Street in Lykens. Chief 22 went responding class three, and requested that Utility 22 be dispatched to assist. Utility 22 responded with 4, and 4 additional members responded to the scene POV. On arrival, the crew found several parked cars struck by a vehicle that was resting on the sidewalk in front of 807 Main Street, with no injuries and PSP on scene. They assisted with traffic control and spill cleanup until released by command.
Engine and Truck 22 were dispatched to the large green building on the square for black smoke coming from the chimney. The engine responded and staged on Market Street, The truck responded and staged in the alley behind the structure, and Chief 22 responded POV and assumed command on arrival. Crews went interior and discovered a malfunctioning furnace which they shut down. The chimney was checked and found OK. Attempts were made to contact the property owner, and tenants were advised that the furnace was out of service until repairs would be made. The company was placed available by command.

Around 1AM, Liberty Hose Company No. 2 responded to assist Elizabethville with a major fire at the Swab Wagon Company. The fire partially destroyed the factory when flames swept through it. The fire started in the foreman's office and spread quickly throughout the factory. Engine-21 (the '64 Hahn) had attached to a hydrant in the first block of West Main Street and the boys hand jacked a 2?-inch hose toward the fire. The line was charged, but the nozzle failed to open. While the second hose was laid, the '34 Studebaker took the hydrant on Callowhill Street. By then the fire had extended up past the new ceiling which had recently been installed, unknown to the Fire Dept. (The fuel shortage of the 70's convinced the owners to try to save some money by placing a ceiling below the original one.) The fire ran east from the point of contact above the ceiling and below the roof. Several attempts were made to get ahead of it, but to no avail. It vented into the office on the East end of the Building and destroyed records that were kept since the beginning of the Company. Several ambulances were in the shop in various stages of construction and were damaged. Dalmatia's was one of them. The blaze was battled for over five hours by more than 100 local firefighters from the companies from Elizabethville, Berrysburg, Millersburg, and Lykens. Elizabethville fire company remained on duty all the next day to police hot spots. Elizabethville Fire Chief, Jacque Wertz, said that though the western portions of the plant were salvageable, the eastern part of the plant was destroyed. Elizabethville's Tom Welker recalls:This was a night and day to remember. I actually lived out of town and saw the glow while coming toward the call. As I arrived, I passed Charlie Wertz, who was in his last month as Fire Chief - after 30 years as Chief he had officially passed the reins on to Jacque Wertz. Both Jacque and Charlie operated flawlessly at this call, one of Charlie's last in the White Helmet. Charlie was headed to his car to "get some help coming." Water supply was a big problem as Elizabethville had an antiquated main system of mostly four and six inch mains. Many lessons were learned that night. Elizabethville became the first company in Upper Dauphin County to purchase 5-inch hose and have a tanker with Newton Dump Valve."
Liberty Hose Company No. 2 of Lykens answered a call to the home of Mr. and Mrs. Neal Ressler, 760 Main Street on Thursday, December 12, 1968. A chimney fire caused a small amount of damage.
A chimney fire occurred in the home of Mr. and Mrs. Marlin Miller on North Second Street in Lykens on the night of Wednesday, December 12, 1945. Liberty Hose Company responded and extinguished the blaze. No damage was reported.
