Water flow alarm, 111 South West Street (Box 24-1)

Engine and Truck 22 dispatched class one to initially 700 West Broad Street for a water flow alarm at a commercial property. This was then corrected to 111 South West Street at the Zemco plant for a water flow alarm. Truck 22 responded with 4 and Engine 22 with 3 and Tanker 24 with 2. On arrival at a 133 foot by 113 foot 3 story commercial structure there was alarms sounding and water flowing from different areas of the building unto the street. A representative of the company arrived and gave access to the building where crews shut down the water supply to the sprinkler system. Sprinkler heads on the third floor had opened up and flooded portions of the building. Power to the areas affected was shut off as well. After securing the water and electricity to affected parts of the building, it was turned over to the company and the box was placed available.

AFA, 317 Wiconisco St (Box 23-1)

Engine 23 and Truck 22 dispatched class one to 317 Wiconisco Street in Wiconisco Township for an automatic fire alarm. Chief 23-1 responded POV to the scene, Engine 23 with 5 and Truck 22 with 7. On arrival at the scene Chief 23-1 placed the box in service.

CO Alarm, 539 South 2nd St (Box 22-1)

Company 22 dispatched class one to 539 South Second Street in Lykens for a CO alarm. Chief 22-2 responded POV, Truck 22 with 2 and Engine 22 with 4. On arrival of Chief 22-2 at a 2 story ordinary wood frame single family dwelling, nothing was evident from side A. When the Engine arrived the crew went interior with the CO meter and read very high levels on all floors. The furnace was shut down and the residents were asked to seek accommodations elsewhere for the night. The house was locked up and command released the company.

Tree down, Powells Valley Rd (Box 216-8)

Company 22 dispatched class three to Powells Valley Road in Jackson Township for a tree that was protruding out on to the highway and had struck an ambulance that was on the way to a call. Utility 22 responded with 4 and Lieutenant 22 with 3 POV. On arrival, pictures were taken of the limb and it was then cut up and removed from the highway. The company then went available.

Tree down, Powells Valley Rd (Box 216-8)
Detail >>
Company 22 dispatched class three to Powells Valley Road near the top of the mountain for a tree down across the highway. Utility 22 responded with 4, Chief 22 POV and Lieutenant 22 with 4 POV. On arrival, a tree was down and blocking one lane. The crew removed it and the roadway was cleared. Command placed the company available.

Medical Assist, 523 Spruce Street (Box 22-1)

Company 22 was requested by EMS to respond class three to assist with lifting a patient at 523 Spruce Street. Engine 22 responded with a crew of three and assisted Medic 6 with removing a patient from the residence to their transport unit.

Fire occurred at the home of James G. Bateman on Market Street at 2:20 AM. The company responded and attached to the plug at the corner of North Second and Market Street. Loss was $7,000.

Jake Hassinger's Structure Fire - Berrysburg, PA

A structure fire occurred on Christmas Day, 1977, at the Jake Hassinger residence on Mill Road near Berrysburg. Company 26 arrived on the scene to find fire on two floors of a large farmhouse. Companies on the scene were: Companies 26 (Berrysburg), 28 (Pillow), and 21 (Elizabethville). When Elizabethville's Chief Jacque Wertz asked Chief 26 for an assignment. The reply was, " Help yourself. There's plenty."

Train Collision - Millersburg, PA

On Christmas morning, 1905, a train carrying the special car of the Superintendent of the Northern Central Railroad Company, W. Heyward Meyers, and a party of his friends, crashed into the rear of a freight engine in Millersburg. It is believed that the engineer failed to see or disregarded a warning signal. The freight locomotive was taking on water at a water tank. The train was in charge of conductor Calvin Hoffman. Nobody on the train was hurt, but everybody was shaken. Both engines were badly damaged.
