Incidents for which we were dispatched (see Note 1)Hide

1944
Multiple Structure Fire, Orwin
Detail >>
Fire was discovered in the upper portion of a large barn on the farm of Frank Bendigo in Orwin at 4 o'clock in the afternoon on Sunday, July 30, 1944. The barn was completely destroyed, along with 65 tons of hay, five tons of straw, 80 bushels of wheat, a hay loader, plows, and other small farming implements. It is presumed that sparks from the fire also ignited a smaller barn on the farm of Henry Bendigo, who was tax collector of Porter Township. This barn was also completely destroyed along with a garage and a large chicken house. The total loss from this fire was estimated in excess of $10,000, part of which was covered by insurance. Firemen from Lykens, Williamstown, Tremont, Tower City, Reinerton, Muir, Orwin, and Sheridan responded to battle the flames.
1983
Structure Fire, 405 South Street (Box 23-1)
Detail >>
On an extremely warm day, Companies 22 and 23 were dispatched to a structure fire in Wiconisco at the Machamer residence at 405 South Street, just behind the L & W Ballfield. Engine 22 responded with a crew of eleven, and on arrival, met Company 23 members fighting a room and contents fire on the second floor in the front bedroom of a two and one half story wood frame single family dwelling. Companies 24, 21, and 66 were dispatched for additional manpower as crews became exhausted from the heat. Some members dunked themselves in the swimming pool of the property owner next door. Additional EMS units were dispatched for rehab and they provided cool towels and water for the crews. The cause of the fire was determined to be a sewing machine in a closet of the front bedroom.
1997
Trash Fire, 409 Market St (Box 22-11)
Detail >>
As members were preparing to attend the annual Berrysburg Carnival parade, the company was dispatched to a report of trash on fire to the rear of 409 Market Street. Chief 22-1 responded POV, and found a couch smoldering in the middle of the alley. Engine 22 responded with 6, and upon arrival, pulled a PW and extinguished fire. PD was requested to the scene, and Engine went available.
2001
Electrical Fire, 670 Main St (Box 22-3)

2007
Unknown fire, Broad and Franklin Streets (Box 21-1)
Detail >>
Companies 21, 20, 26, and 22 were dispatched for a report of an unknown type of fire in the area of Broad and Franklin Streets in Elizabethville. Chief 21 held all units in quarters, with the exception of Engine 21, while they investigated. Truck 22 stood by in station 22 with seven personnel. After a search could not locate any fire, command placed the box in service.
2015
