At the request of Medic 6 Company 22 dispatched class three to 519 Main Street in Lykens for a lift assist. Chief 22-2 responded POV to the scene and Utility 22 went enroute with 2. On arrival the crew assisted Medic 6 with removing the patient from the residence to the transport unit and then went available.
Engine 22 dispatched class three to 216-8 box on Powells Valley Road near the 5th bridge for a report of a tree down blocking both lanes. Chief 22 responded POV, Engine 22 went enroute with 4 and Utility 22 with 4. On arrival the crew found a very large tree had fallen across Powells Valley Road and the highway was blocked. Crew broke out the chain saws and brooms and leaf blowers and cut up and removed the tree from the roadway. After clearing the roadway and getting all the backed up traffic moving command placed the box available.
Company 22, 23, 24, 21 and 24EMS dispatched class one to 512 Main Street in Lykens for a kitchen fire. Chief 22 responded POV, Engine 22 went enroute with 5, Truck 22 with 4, Engine 24 with 6, Rescue 21 with 8, Engine 23 with 4, Rescue 23 with 4, and QRS24. On arrival Chief 22 had Engine 22 lay in from the hydrant at 545 Main Street. He had a 2 story duplex wood frame structure with a light smoke condition on the first floor. The occupant had extinguished a grease fire on the stove using an extinguisher. Command then held the box to Company 22. Crews vented the structure and assisted 24Q with patient care. After ventilation was complete, command placed the box available.
Company 22 dispatched class three to 801 Market Street in Lykens to assist EMS with lifting an extremely obese patient. Truck 22 responded with 6, and on arrival, assisted Medic 6 with moving a very large patient from their unit to the patients home, and then went available.
Box 21-6 was dispatched for a reported fan on fire in the attic of the residence at 241 Gun Club Road in Washington Township, alerting companies 21, 22, 23, 20, and 27. Truck 22 responded with a crew of five and was advised by Chief 21 to stage on Gun Club Road, along with other responding units. Engine 21's crew had the fire knocked down very quickly, and command held the box to Companies 21 and 23. The truck went available at 10:46 p.m. and Command 21 placed the box in service at 11:07 p.m.
Company 22 was dispatched to assist Medic 6 with the removal of a patient from a creek bank at the Glen Park. Chief 22 responded POV to the scene, Truck 22 responded with a crew of seven, and Engine 22 responded with a crew of two. The crew used a ladder to descend a creek wall to the patient's location, placed the boarded patient in a stokes basket, and removed him to the awaiting transport unit. After transfer, the crew went available.
A structure fire occurred at 647 North Second Street in Lykens Borough. Fire on the second floor took out a hallway, bathroom, and two bedrooms. The daughter of the owner was home at the time and smelled smoke. She went upstairs to investigate and saw the flames. She pulled all the bedroom doors shut before exiting building, which helped slow the fire's spread until the arrival of the fire companies. The fire started in the rear bedroom closet. There was no electrical outlets or lights in that closet, but the occupant had run an extension cord under the door to plug in a floor lamp. Insulation on the cord wore through and shorted out. One alarm went out with special calls for two additional engines. Four lines were pulled to extinguish the fire. Companies 22, 23, 24, and 21 were on the scene.
On May 18, 1952, the Hickory Corners and Community Fire Company purchased a cement block building with a parcel of land to be used as a fire station. The purchase was from Phillips Egg Storage, with a subject of restriction that no alcoholic beverages are to be sold on the property. Prior to this purchase, Hickory Corner's fire engine and equipment were housed and the company's meetings were held at several garages throughout the community.
