Cardiac Arrest - AED, 223 Market Street (Box 22-1)

Company 22 dispatched class one to 223 Market Street in Lykens for a cardiac arrest AED call. Chief 22 responded from his residence across the street followed by Chief 22-2 also to the scene POV. Utility 22 responded with 2. On arrival a signal 12 was called and the Company was placed available.

AFA, 3000 Powells Valley Rd (Box 19-1)
Detail >>
Box 19-1 dispatched for an automatic fire alarm at a residence at 3000 Powells Valley Road in Jefferson Township, bringing Engine 29-1 for the out of service Engine 19, Tanker 19, and Truck 22. The box was placed in service before any response.

Stove Fire, 240 East Market Street (Box 24-1)

Companies 24, 23, Truck 22 and Schuylkill 647 dispatched class one to 240 East Market Street in Williamstown for a stove fire. Truck 22 responded with 7, and arrived on scene on side C of a 2 story wood frame, 6 unit apartment building on Railroad Street. Command advised that the fire was now out. The truck crew was sent to the second floor apartment with the TIC to check for extensions, and assisted with setting up ventilation until released by command 24.

Flooding, 801 Market Street (Box 22-2)

Company 22 dispatched class three to 801 Market Street in Lykens for basement flooding. Chief 22 went enroute POV, and Utility 22 went enroute with 4. On arrival, the crew set up an electric pump in the basement and pumped out about 2 inches of water, and then went available.

Structure Fire, 2206 East Main Street (Box S.C.)

Truck 22, along with Company 27, dispatched into Schuylkill County, Boro of Sacramento, at 2206 East Main Street for a structure fire. Truck 22 responded with 7, and was canceled shortly after leaving Lykens Boro.

Pole Fire, 549 North Street (Box 22-1)
Detail >>
Company 22 was dispatched to 549 North Street for a report of a power pole arcing. Engine 22 responded with a crew of six, and upon arrival was met by PD. No fire, arcing, or electrical hazard was found on the pole. A pole number was relayed to County to notify PP&L, and the Engine was placed available.
1904
Fire, Sheaffer's Knitting Mill

Fire broke out in the Sheaffer's Knitting Mill, situated on the South side of Pottsville Street in Wiconisco. Liberty Hose Company No. 2 of Lykens was then telephoned for and responded promptly with full apparatus. The company connected to a private fire plug in front of Kimmel & Co.'s Store. Having no water pressure, the company was compelled to retreat, leaving two sections of hose on the plug. That being the only fire plug in Wiconisco, the company was helpless for about twenty minutes until connections could be made at Short Mountain Colliery pump at the coal yard. Two lines of hose were then connected. Due to hose bursting, the firemen were handicapped at times. In the mean time, Hood McKay, Superintendant of the Colliery, had a line of pipe laid from the mines It was was laid in a very short time. The flames were spreading very rapidly. By orders of Chief Engineer Vernon Mitchell, the Maurer building, occupied by Fred Batdorf, was torn down to prevent the flames from spreading across the alley to the Wiconisco Hotel owned by J. H. Pontious. Damage to the company was eleven sections of hose, several hose drags, one plug strap, and three gum coats. The property destroyed by the fire was valued at $65,000, loss of $43,975. The company responded at 9 PM on Tuesday evening and stayed until 12 noon on Wednesday.
