Fire, St Marys Catholic Church

Fire discovered in St. Mary's Roman Catholic Church on February 28, 1928, caused damage estimated at $60,000. The vestry room and the paintings in the church were badly damaged and vestments valued at between $1,500 and $2,000 were ruined.

Structure Fire, 249 West 5th St (Box 24-11)

Truck 22 was dispatched to assist Company 24 with a report of a structure fire in Williamstown. Company 23 was also dispatched to assist. A caller reported a possible electrical fire at this residence. Truck 22 responded and was advised by command to stage at the Williamstown Medical Center. Chief 24-1 then held the box to Company 24, and the Truck went available.

Auto Alarm, 550 Main St (Box 22-1)

Companies 22 and 23 were dispatched to an automatic alarm at the Miner's Bank Building on Main Street. Chief 22 arrived on scene, confirmed the alarm as a false trip, and placed the box in service.

Furnace Malfunction, 500 Block Pottsville Street (Box 23-1)
Detail >>
Company-22 was dispatched to assist Company-23 and Company-24 with a report of heavy smoke coming from the rear of a structure in the 500-Block of Pottsville Street in Wiconisco. Chief 23-2 arrived on scene and discovered a furnace problem, with black smoke coming from the chimney. Chief 23-2 held the box to Company-23, placing all other units in service.

Structure Fire, 749 West Market St (Box 27-1)

Company 27, Truck 22, Rescue 23, Engine 26 and Rescue 28 dispatched class one to 749 West Market Street in Gratz Boro for a reported barn fire. Truck 22 went enroute with 7 and utility 22 with 4, and were canceled by Command 27 when it was found to be a controlled burn.

Truck 22 dispatched class one to Porter Township in Schuylkill County to 111 South 7th Street for an automatic residential fire alarm. Truck 22 responded with 5 and on arrival side A was staged until released by command.

AFA, 4314 Route 209 (Box 21-5)
Detail >>
Truck 22, Company 21 and Engine 26 dispatched class one to 4314 Route 209 in Washington Township at Rite Screen for an automatic fire alarm. Truck 22 responded with 5 and was canceled while enroute by Command 21.

AFA, 4955 Route 209 (Box 21-5)
Detail >>
Company 21, Engine 26 and Truck 22 dispatched class one to 4955 Route 209 in Washington Township at Tractor Supply for a commercial automatic fire alarm. Truck 22 responded with 7 and on arrival was directed by command to the A/D corner and to go to the roof. Truck was put in service and two members went to the roof with the TIC to check all HVAC units. A key holder arrived on scene and the 21 crew was able to gain access to the interior of the building. A water flow alarm was activated and the system was reset. Command then placed the box available.
