Fire of undetermined origin destroyed an unoccupied home north of Loyalton on Monday Evening, April 29, 1968. Liberty Hose Company No. 2 of Lykens received the call for help about 7:30 p.m. The home, owned by Mr. and Mrs. Robert Bonawitz of Loyalton, was located in a small wooded area just north of the village. Lykens and Elizabethville fire companies as well as the Lykens Forestry group responded to the alarm. The home was a total loss.
Engine 22 was requested to relocate to Station 21 while Company 21 was on the scene of a commercial structure fire at 125 Gearhart Street, at the Alvord Polk Tool Company, in Millersburg. Engine 22 responded and stood by at Station 21 until released by Chief 21. Companies 20, 21, 29, 26 were on the fire scene, with Northumberland County Company 62 relocated to Station 20.

Brush Fire endang house, 5100 block of Rt 147 (Box 20-5)
Truck-22 was dispatched, in place of Truck-20, to an area in Upper Paxton Township for a brush fire endangering a house. The truck responded with a crew of six, but was canceled by Command-20 just after response.
Company 22 dispatched class one to 759 Main Street in Lykens Boro for an automatic fire alarm. Engine 22 responded with 4 and Truck 22 with 2, and Chief 22 POV from out of town. Engine 22 arrived on scene side A, and the crew could smell burned food from the outside. After gaining entry to the structure, they found the occupant in the dining room and a pan on fire on the kitchen stove. The elderly occupant was removed from the structure and the pan removed from the building. Truck 22 arrived on side A and the crew ventilated the smoke from the structure while EMS was requested to examine the occupant. Company 23's fire police were dispatched to assist with traffic control on Main Street. After venting the building and securing the stove, the occupant was allowed back into her home and the box was placed available.
At the request of Medic 6 on scene, Truck 22 dispatched to the Rattling Creek Apartments at 15 South Second Street in Lykens to assist with forcible entry. Lieutenant 22 and his brother were across the street from the address and were on scene in seconds. Truck 22 responded with 4 and Utility 22 with 1. The Truck arrived on side A and set up the bucket to go to the third floor, where they took out a window to allow the Medic to access the patient. After gaining access the crew assisted EMS with getting the patient out to their unit for transport. Command then placed the Company available.
Company 22 dispatched class three to the 216-8 box on Powells Valley Road for a tree blocking the roadway. Chief 22-2 responded POV and Utility 22 went enroute with 3. In the area of the bridge at the Lykens reservoir they found a tree across the roadway and cleared it off. Chief and Utility proceeded all the way out Powells Valley Road to the handboard curve in the 19-4 box to make sure no other trees were down. Finding none Company 22 went available.
