Smoke in a structure, 939 East Grand Avenue (Box S.C.)

Truck 22 was dispatched to the Borough of Tower City, Schuylkill County, for a report of flames coming from a chimney and smoke on the first floor at 939 East Grand Avenue. This location is a day care center that was unoccupied at the time. Neighbors reported seeing black smoke occasionally coming from the chimney over the last day or so, and they called 911 when they saw flames from the chimney and smoke in the building. Truck 22 responded with a crew of seven and Chief 22 responded POV. Engine 66-10 and Engine 650 were in front of the building, and Engine 655 had side C. Truck 22 had side A, and sent three guys to the roof to check out the chimney, which was clear. The rest of the crew assisted in the basement. Investigation determined the problem to be a furnace malfunction.

Engine 22 dispatched to Station 23 in Wiconisco to set up an LZ for Life Lion. Companies 23 and 24 were on the scene of an accident with entrapment at 8512 Route 209 in Williams Township. Engine 22 responded with 6 and Chief 22-1 POV. On arrival, the crew set up the LZ for Life Lion, but on the arrival of EMS a signal 12 was declared. Life Lion left the scene and Engine 22 went available.

Fuel Spill, 313-15 South Street (Box 23-1)

At the request of Command 23, Truck 22 dispatched class three to 313-315 South Street in Wiconisco to assist with positive pressure ventilation in a structure that had a fuel oil spill in the basement. Truck 22 responded with 6, and on arrival set up the PPV fan on side A and performed a primary search of the structure. The interior crew located one person inside and escorted them to the EMS unit to be checked out. After performing PPV for a short time, command released the Truck and the crew went available.

Pump Detail, 553 South 2nd Street (Box 22-1)

Company 22 dispatched to their own club across from the station to assist with a pump detail for water in the basement. Several company members responded class three to the station, and assisted with water removal.

Service Call, Main and Market Streets (Box 22-1)

Company 22 OIC alerted to a report of a large window having blown out of the old Drug Store Building on the square in Lykens at Main and Market Streets with glass on Main Street. Chiefs 22, 22-2, and Lieutenant 22 responded class three to the scene. They found a large piece of plexi-glass had blown out a second floor window and was laying in pieces on Main Street. The pieces were cleaned up and removed from the roadway and they went available.

Accident with injuries, 7000 Powells Valley Road (Box 216-8)

Engine 22, Rescue 23, and Medic 6 dispatched class one to the 7000 block of Powells Valley Road in Jackson Township on the 216-8 box for an accident with injuries. Chiefs 22 and 22-1 and 23 along with 4 other company members responded POV, Engine 22 went enroute with 6, Rescue 23 with 4, and Utility 22 with 4. While enroute to the scene of the crash, Chief 22 came upon the driver of the vehicle by the Fish Hatchery. Engine 22 stopped to render patient care while Rescue 23 and Utility 22 continued to the location of the vehicle another mile and a half up the road. Chief 23 arrived on location of the vehicle and found it about a half mile south of the Lykens Reservoir, off the road over the guard rails and on its side. After the arrival of Medic 6 on location with the driver, care was transferred to EMS and Engine 22 continued to the scene of the crash. Lykens PD and PSP also were on scene. Fire Police closed down the road at the entrance to the Weiser State Forest to the south, and at the Glen Road little league field to the north of the accident scene. Company 23 was released and Engine 22 established lighting and assisted PSP and Lykens PD with scene safety and control. After the arrival of two wreckers and the removal of the vehicle, the road was reopened and command placed the box available.

Assist PD, 568 South Street (Box 22-1)

At the request of the police department on scene Truck 22 dispatched class three to 568 South Street in Lykens for forcible entry. Truck 22 responded with 4 and Chief 22 went POV to the scene. The Company was placed in service shortly after response when PD gained entry.
