Per request of EMS, Company 22 was dispatched to assist on a medical call at 572 Main Street in Lykens. Truck 22 responded with a crew of seven and assisted EMS with removal of an obese patient from the residence to the waiting ambulance. The crew then went available.
Truck 22 was dispatched to 19 West Market Street in Gratz for a reported chimney fire. The crew was initially advised to stand-by in quarters, but was then requested to respond to the scene. Truck 22 responded with a crew of five, and upon arrival was advised that there was now a working fire, with smoke and flames visible. The tower was put in service to the roof and ground ladders were thrown. The crew assisted with extinguishing activities and overhaul until released by command.
Company 21, Company 26, and Truck 22 dispatched to reported odor investigation at 295 State Road in Washington Township at the new Dauphin County Human Services Building next to the PSP Barracks. A thunder storm was passing through the area, and dispatch advised that there was an odor of something burning and alarm bells sounding, but no fire or smoke found. Truck 22 responded with 7. On arrival, the crew staged and assisted with a search of the building, and found nothing. It appeared that the location may have taken a lightning strike. Command released the truck, and the crew went available.
2012
Structure Fire, 656 South Second Street (Box 22-1)
The 22-1 box was dispatched for a report of a structure fire at 656 South Second Street in Lykens. Chief 22 responded POV to the scene, and Engine and Truck 22 responded class one each with 5. Engine 23 and Rescue 21 also responded. Command 22 found no signs of fire but had a slight smell of something burning, possibly electrical in nature. Command held the box to company 22 units and Engine 23. Truck and Engine 22 arrived on side A from opposite directions and sent crews from the engine interior to investigate while the truck crew laddered the building to check the chimney. Engine 23 stood by at the hydrant at South Second and Spruce Streets, and was shortly released to respond to a CO call in their own first due. Further investigation in the basement of the structure found a burned out deep freezer motor. The freezer was secured, the home owner advised, and command placed the box available.
At the request of Medic 6-5 Company 22 dispatched class three to the Rattling Creek Apartments at 15 South Second Street in Lykens for a lift assist. Chiefs 22 and 22-1 responded POV to the scene. Truck 22 went enroute with 7 and three additional members stood by in Station 22. On arrival, the crew assisted EMS in transferring a patient to their litter and then their transport unit. After completing the task Command placed the Company available.
Company 22, Engine and Rescue 23, Engine 24, Rescue 21, Truck 20 for the out of service Truck 22, Engine 27 for RIT and Medic 6 dispatched class one to 15 South Second Street in Lykens on the 4th floor of Rattling Creek Apartments for a structure fire. Engine 22 responded with 5 and Utility 22 with 2. On arrival at a 4 story brick 100 foot by 75 foot multi-family housing unit the Engine took side D and advanced a 400 foot pre-connect off the rear of the Engine and advanced it inside and up the stairwell to the 4th floor. They advanced the line to the reported apartment on fire and were met with fire from a stove and extending up the wall and into the cabinets. Engine 23 arrived and laid in from the hydrant at Main and Arlington Street and staged on the C side of the structure where they advanced a secondary line up to the 4th floor. Engine 24 and Rescue 21 arrived and staged in the 100 block of South Second Street and sent their manpower forward. Truck 20 arrived and took side A. Fire was knocked down in a few minutes, with extensive overhaul needed along with checking for extension. Crews from Rescue 21 and Engine 24 checked the other floors of the building for possible smoke conditions and found none. All residents of the building were evacuated outside and staged on the B side of the building in a safe area. Engine 27 which was enroute to handle the RIT assignment was placed in service while enroute. The building manager, maintenance supervisor, and representatives from Dauphin County that own the building all arrived on scene along with the head of Human Services. After ventilating smoke from the fire floor and taking air quality readings, the residents of all but the affected apartment were permitted to re-occupy the building and crews began wrapping up equipment. Command turned the building over to the Building Manager and the box was placed available.
Company 22, Engine and Rescue 23, Rescue 21 and Engine 24 and EMS dispatched class one to 538 Main Street in Lykens for a possible structure fire. Two callers reported seeing smoke coming from the second floor of an apartment building. Chief 22 responded POV to the scene and on arrival, confirmed with the occupant that it was a stove fire no out with a heavy smoke condition inside the apartment. Engine 22 responded with 4 and arrived on side A of a two story multi family apartment building 50 foot by 75 foot with nothing evident from the exterior. Command held the box to Engines 22 and 23. Crews went interior and set up positive pressure ventilation. A burnt pan was removed from the stove and taken outside. After ventilating the apartment and checking the other apartment for any smoke and finding none command placed the box available.
