Medical Assist, 601 Main Street (Box 22-1)

At the request of 24 EMS on scene Company 22 dispatched class three to the Israel Building at 601 Main Street in Lykens to assist them with getting a patient out to their unit. Chiefs 22 and 22-2 responded POV with one additional firefighter and Utility 22 went enroute with 4. On arrival the crew used a stair chair to move the patient from the second floor apartment to the transport unit and then went available.
2013
CO Alarm, 315 1/2 Market Street (Box 22-1)

Company 22 dispatched class one to 315 1/2 Market Street in Lykens for a CO Alarm sounding. Engine 22 responded with 3, and on arrival, staged on Market Street and North First Street and the crew went interior to check CO levels. All occupants were out of the structure with no one reporting any health issues. Readings inside were checked and found to be OK. CO alarm was removed and owner was to replace the batteries. Command placed the box in service.

Fire Reported Out, 552 North Street (Box 22-1)

Company 22 was dispatched to 552 North Street for a report of a dryer fire now out. Engine 22 responded with a crew of six, Truck 22 responded with crew of four, and Chief 22 went to the scene POV. On arrival, the crew found the homeowner in the laundry room to the rear of the first floor, with the dryer pulled away from the wall and unplugged. Lieutenant 22-1 confirmed that the power to the dryer had been shut off at the circuit panel. After investigating and finding no fire, the Chief placed the box in service.

Basement Pumping, Various Lykens Locations (Box 22-1)

Company 22 was requested on several occasions throughout the day to pump basements that were taking on water as a result of a heavy rainstorm the night before that left almost 3 inches of rain. Locations pumped included the Baptist Church at Main and Spruce Streets, 432 South Second Street, 656 North Street, and Railroad Street among others. Crews manned portable pumps and were called throughout the day for assistance, with most calls coming in by landline.

Set up LZ, Glen Park (Box 22-2)

Company 22 was dispatched to set up an landing zone for Life Lion at the Glen. County canceled the call shortly after dispatch, and dispatched Company 23 to set up the landing zone at the L & W Ballfield. The landing zone was requested by Medic 6 on the scene of a medical emergency in Williams Township.

Truck 22 was dispatched for a report of smoke in a structure in the village of Joliett. The truck was canceled by command before response.

Oven Fire, 553 S 2nd St (Box 22-1)

Companies 22 and 23 were dispatched to a stove on fire in the Liberty Hose Company Social Club across the street from Station-22. Engine and Truck-22 responded and set up across from the station on side-1. Company-23 was placed in service after it was determined that the fire was out. The fire originated in an oven while cooking turkeys. Smoke was throughout first floor. The building was vented by the company with no further damage.

Chimney Fire, 401 Market Street (Box 22-1)

Companies 22 and 23 were dispatched to a chimney fire at the red brick apartment building at the corner of Market and North Second Streets. Engine 22 responded, and set up on side-1. Crews went to the roof to check the chimney and found it completely blocked. A crew was sent inside, and went to the attic where they broke a hole through the chimney to determine what was causing the blockage. They discovered an old set of window weights lodged part way down that was blocking the chimney. After removal of the weights, the property owner was advised of the chimney breach and that the furnace was out of service until it was repaired. Crews cleaned up the scene and went available.

Covent Garden Opera House Fire - London, England

At 4:55 a.m. on March 5, 1856, fire destroyed the royal opera house at Covent Garden in half an hour. There was no loss of life. It was the second Covent Garden Opera House, built after the first one was destroyed by fire in 1808.
