Company 22 dispatched class one to the area in front of 768 Main Street for a two vehicle accident. Engine 22 responded with 5 and utility 22 with 4. On arrival there were two vehicles partially blocking Main Street with one driver with Medic 6 and the other driver appearing to be unhurt. Utility 22 set up a blocking position at Main and Lehr streets to divert traffic while one firefighter blocked traffic at Main and Arch. After EMS determined there were no injuries the vehicles were moved off Main street and the box was placed available.
While Utility 22 was assisting with traffic and crowd control at the annual Memorial Day festivities at the Glen Park, a medical emergency occurred and EMS was dispatched. Utility 22 and its crew responded to in front of 610 Park View Road to stabilize a patient until the arrival of EMS. The patient eventually felt well enough to be taken home POV and EMS was canceled. The Company was placed available. A total of ten members assisted on the call.
Engine 22 dispatched class one to the front parking lot of Boyers grocery store at 572 Main Street for a report of a contractors truck on fire. Chief 22 responded POV from his residence across the street and found PSP on the scene and the fire contained to the engine compartment of the truck and nearly out. He requested that upon response Engine 22 go class three. Engine 22 responded with 6 and Utility 22 with 2 and one member POV. On arrival, the crew disconnected the batteries and pulled out smoldering insulation and wiring before determining that the fire was then completely out. Command then placed the box available.
2019
Accident with no injury, Powells Valley Road (Box 19-4)
While returning to Lykens from Halifax via Powells Valley Road, Chiefs 22-1 and 22-2 came across an accident at a spot commonly known as the handboard. There was a vehicle on its roof into the trees about 20 feet off the road with the driver out of the vehicle and unhurt. Chief 22-2 contacted Dauphin County dispatch of the incident and requested PSP. After checking the driver for injuries and finding none and the arrival of PSP they both went available.
Engine 24 and Rescue 23 were working a crash with entrapment call at Water Street and Route 209 in Williams Township. Chief 23 requested Company 22 to stand by in quarters for a possible landing zone setup at Station 23. Moments later EMS requested Life Lion to fly and Engine 22 was dispatched class one to handle the landing zone at station 23. Engine 22 responded with 5 and Utility 22 with 3. On arrival at station 23, Chief 22 assumed landing zone officer while the crew established the landing zone. On arrival of Life Lion and EMS the crew assisted with transferring the patient to the helicopter and then went available.
2014
Medical Assist, 559 North Second Street (Box 22-1)
Having just cleared the previous call, the Utility was advised that EMS from Medic 6 needed assistance with lifting an obese patient at 559 North Second Street in Lykens. The Utility went enroute from Railroad Street with 5, Chief 22 and Truck 22 also responded and Rescue 23 was added to the call. On arrival, crews assisted Medic 6 with transferring the patient from her home to their transport unit, and then went available.
At the request of Command 23, Utility 22 dispatched class one to assist company 23 with the extrication and removal of a patient from the Wiconisco Creek behind Lawley Road in Wiconisco Township. Chief 22 responded POV and Utility 22 went enroute with 5. Command advised the crew to respond in on the Rails to Trails path and bring the stokes and rescue gear back in to their location along the Wiconisco Creek. The crew assisted with packaging and transferring the patient from the creek to a stokes, and then hauled her out and onto the back of the Utility, which then hauled her out to Railroad Street in Lykens where EMS from 24 was located, and transferred her to their unit for transport. The crew then went available.
2014
Automatic Fire Alarm, 300 Chestnut Street (Box 22-1)
Company 22 and Engine 23 dispatched class one to 300 Chestnut Street in Lykens at the Alfa Laval Thermal Plant for an automatic fire alarm. Chief 22 responded POV, Engine 22 with 5, and Engine 23 with 6. Engine 23 stood by the hydrant at Hanna and Chestnut Streets, and Engine 22 staged in the office parking lot. Maintenance personnel on scene advised that a manual pull station on the C side of the building had activated, and they had silenced the alarm. After checking the building and finding no problem, command advised dispatch that the system was taken off line, ADT was contacted, and the box was put in service.
Shortly before midnight on Saturday, May 31, 2008, a commercial fire alarm was dispatched on a 22-3 box for a report of a structure fire at the Reiff and Nestor Plant on Reiff Street. Dispatched were Company 22, Engine 23 (Wiconisco), Engine and Rescue 21 (Elizabethville), and Engine 66 (Sheridan)in place of the out of service Engine 24 (Williamstown). Later into the incident, Tankers 22 and 23 responded to the call as well. Members arriving at the fire station could see a smoke header and the orange glow of the fire and reported a working fire. Follow-up information from the Communication Center advised that the structure involved was located to the rear of the plant, across Rattling Creek, and was a storage type building. Engine 22 responded with a crew of six, Tanker 22 responded with a crew of two, Chiefs 22 and 22-1 responded to the scene via POV. Engine 22 accessed the scene via Reiff Street and West Street. The crew made connection to the hydrant, and the engine proceeded around the west side of the plant to the rear along the creek bank, where the crew observed a fully involved approximately 20 foot by 50 foot pole building with fire through the entire roof. There was no exposure issue other than some trees and brush surrounding the building. A 3-inch blitz line was pulled off Engine 22 and taken to the creek bank and placed in service, throwing water across the creek onto the structure. Engine 23 arrived and accessed the scene from the parking lot via a space between the rear of the plant and an outbuilding that is commonly known as the "White House". A 3-inch supply line from Engine 22 was set up to supply water to Engine 23, and the deck gun on Engine 23 was placed into operation. Engine 21 was directed to the structure by crossing the creek on the Edward Street bridge, then heading out Railroad Street to the end of the paved roadway, and proceeding to the scene by a dirt lane. Engine 21 was supplied by Tanker 23, and placed an 1?-inch line in service to extinguish visible fire. Engine 66 was directed to relocate to Station 22 during their response. Most of the visible fire was knocked down in a short period of time, after which Companies 21 and 23 were placed available, while Engine 66 was held in Station 22. Engine 22 disconnected from the hydrant and proceeded across the creek by way of the Edward Street bridge, where the crew performed overhaul on the structure using on board tank water. After overhaul was completed, Engine and Tanker 22 went available and Engine 66 was released from standby. Also see 2008 call #36 for more information about this fire.
2007
Accident with injuries and fire, 8693 Route 209 (Box 24-3)
Engine 22 was dispatched in place of Engine 24 to 8693 Route 209 in Williams Township for an accident involving an overturned dump truck, reportedly with entrapment and fire. Engine 22 responded with a crew of six, and was canceled upon arrival by Command 24. Units on scene were Tanker 24, Engine 23, Medic 6, and PSP. No entrapment or fire was found upon arrival of the first units, the driver had self-extricated himself, and the dump truck was on its side with its load of coal / rocks laying on the highway. Lykens and Wiconsico fire police shut down Route 209 at Lehr Street in Lykens Borough for the duration of this call.
On the afternoon of May 31, 1990, Companies 22 and 23 were dispatched to a structure fire at 545 Main Street, the former Doctor Herrold residence which had been converted to apartments. Engine 22 responded and arrived on side A, and Engine and Squad 23 also arrived on scene. The fire started in the kitchen of the second floor apartment. Three hose lines were pulled to extinguish the blaze. The fire was contained to the kitchen and living room of the apartment, with minor scorching on the front of the third floor of the building. During overhaul, the crew was sifting through the burned area of the living room and saw a snake crawl out of the debris and wrap itself around a hand tool. The occupant was quickly summoned to retrieved the pet snake and removed it from the fire scene.
