Structure Fire, 10 Porter Road (Box S.C.)

Dauphin County units Truck 22, Rescue Tanker and Air 23 and Tanker 24 dispatched class one to 10 Porter Road in Porter Township in Schuylkill County in Sheridan for a structure fire. Truck 22 responded with 6 with one additional member POV. During the incident Engine 22 had a crew of 4 in station. Initial reports stated that it was a working fire. Truck 22 arrived on scene and staged on the A/B side of a one story rancher with heavy brown smoke pushing out of the soffets and ridge vent of the single family home. Crew split with half going to the roof and the rest setting ladders on the B and C sides. Interior crews knocked down the bulk of the fire in the basement area and ventilation was used to clear out the home. Crews assisted with salvage and overhaul until released by Command.

Shed fire, 429 Reiners School Rd (Box 53-1)

Truck 22 dispatched class one on the 53-1 box to 429 Reiners School Road in Rush Township for a shed fire. Truck 22 responded with 7 and utility 22 with 3. Company 22 was placed available by command while enroute.

Electrical fire, 570 North Stone Rd (Box 21-2)

Engine and Truck 22 dispatched as next due for Engine 21 and Truck 20 on the 21-2 box to 570 North Stone Road in Washington township for an electrical fire in a smoke house. Both units were canceled almost immediately when first due units went responding.
2018
Gas leak, 414 North Second Street (Box 22-1)

Company 22 and Engine 23 dispatched class one to 414 North Second Street in Lykens for a reported gas leak. Chief 22 responded POV to the scene. Engine 22 responded with 5 and Truck 22 with 3. On arrival Side A the Truck took the address of a 2 story wood frame single family dwelling while crews from the Engine and Truck checked several residences with the gas meter. Engine 23 was placed in service shortly after arriving on scene. No readings were found. Command placed the box in service.
2013
Structure Fire, 213 Reed Lane (Box 27-2)

Company 27, Schuylkill 14-10 and 65, 26, and Truck 22 dispatched class one to 213 Reed Lane in Lykens Township to the Stoney Hollow Furniture Company for a reported commercial structure fire. Truck 22 responded with 5. On arrival of Chief 27-1, he requested the first alarm and established command. This brought additional units from companies 20, 26, 28, and Rescue 23 for RIT. On arrival side A, the crew found an 80 by 40 foot pole building with smoke pushing from the eaves and open garage doors of a furniture construction business. The Truck was assigned ventilation and laddering of the building. Ladders were thrown and set on the A, C, and D sides, and the gable vent was pulled and the exhaust vent pipe on the C side was removed. Fire was knocked down very quickly, and the Truck crew assisted with pulling ceilings interior. Schuylkill Rescue Engine 650 (Muir) was relocated to station 22. After tearing out the ceiling and checking for hot spots, command placed the Truck available.

Smoke in a Structure, 2386 Powells Valley Road (Box 19-2)

Tanker-22 was dispatched to Wayne Township to assist companies 19, 20, 21, 216, 26, and 29 on a report of smoke in a structure. The tanker was canceled before response. Chief-19 held the box to Company-19.

Maid of the Mist Fire - Niagara Falls, Canada

On April 22, 1955, a fire destroyed the popular passenger ships MAID OF THE MIST (built in 1885) and MAID OF THE MIST II while in winter quarters at the Canadian docks. The steamers carried hundreds of thousands of passengers to the base of Niagara Falls for a close-up view. A spark from a welders torch started the fire and the blaze destroyed the wooden superstructures of the ships. Niagara Falls Fire Department Fire Chief John Shapton suffered a severe heart attack while directing operations at this fire. He died the same day. Shapton had been the department's first full time (paid) Fire Chief since August 15, 1938, when the individual fire companies of the city were unified into one department.
