Fire, Short Mountain Slope

Fire occurred at the Short Mountain Slope. The house alarm sounded by blowing a whistle at 10:25 AM. J.F. Foster pulled the carriage by hand to the [Market Street] bridge at Wiconisco. There the carriage was met by Superintendent of the Mines, T.M. Williams, and attached to a buggy to be pulled to the scene. The hose was connected to a pump near Bull Engine House. Superintendent Williams told Chief J.F. Foster to submit the time of all members who worked the fire and to report all hose damage for payment by the mines. One section of hose was busted and two were scorched. The pressure on the hose was 550 psi. Property damage was estimated to be $15,000.

Fire alarm sounded at 2:15 PM on July 20, 1911. Fire broke out at the property of Lewis Wentzler on South Street. Not much damage was done.

Truck-22 was dispatched in place of Truck-20 for an automatic fire alarm at the Frederick Health Center in Upper Paxton Township. The truck was canceled almost immediately when Truck-20 went responding.

Medical Assist, 572 Main Street (Box 22-1)

Company-22 was dispatched class-3 at the request of EMS for a lift assist at 572 Main Street. Engine-22 responded with a crew of six and assisted EMS with moving a patient.

CO Alarm, 212 North Second Street (Box 22-1)

Company 22 dispatched class one to 212 North Second Street in Lykens for a report of a carbon monoxide alarm going off. Chief 22 responded POV to the scene, and Engine 22 responded with 5 and Truck 22 went with 2. On the Chief's arrival, he entered the structure and detected an odor of propane that appeared to be coming from the kitchen stove. The single occupant of the residence was taken outside. On arrival side A, the engine crew packed up and went interior with the gas meter and although the CO alarm was going off detected no CO. The truck crew set up ventilation while the engine crew shut off the outside propane cylinders. The occupant was checked by EMS and family members were contacted. After disabling the kitchen stove and venting the structure, command placed the company available.

CO Alarm, 212 North Second Street (Box 22-1)

Company 22 dispatched class one to 212 North Second Street in Lykens for a CO alarm. This was the scene of a call earlier the same day. Chief 22 responded POV, Engine 22 with 5, and Utility 22 with 2. On arrival, crews investigated and found a faulty CO detector, which they replaced with a new one. After checking readings and finding none, the box was placed available.

CO Alarm, 433 South Second Street (Box 22-1)

Company 22 dispatched class one to 433 South Second Street in Lykens for a CO alarm activation with an odor and haze in the basement. Chief 22 responded POV to the scene, Engine 22 responded with 6, Utility 22 with 2, and Truck 22 with 2. On arrival, crews found a 2 story single family residence with the occupants outside, reporting that their CO alarm had gone off and there was a haze in the basement. Crew packed up and went interior with the gas meter and found high readings in the basement. The furnace was shut down, the building was laddered and the chimney checked and found to be clear. A furnace repair person arrived on scene, and after venting the structure the building was turned over to him and the box was placed in service.

Fuel Spill, 211 Tunnel Street (Box 24-1)

As the 22 crews were cleaning up from the previous furnace malfunction call, Company 24 was dispatched to 211 Tunnel Street for a fuel spill in a basement. Upon their arrival on scene, additional resources were requested by command to handle the problem, including contacting the representative of the furnace repair company that was still on scene of 22's previous incident. Station 22 was able to make contact with him and secured some leak repair materials from him to assist Company 24 on their incident. Utility 22 responded class three to the 24 box with 3 with materials to assist them with their spill, while 3 members remained on standby in station. Additional materials were needed, and the 3 remaining crew members responded to the scene POV with a spill containment pond to be used at the 24 call. After delivering the items requested command released company 22 and they went available.

Medical Assist, 600 Main Street (Box 22-1)

At the request of Medic 6 Company 22 dispatched class three to 600 Main Street at the Union House Apartments to assist them in gaining entry to an apartment with the Knox key. Chief 22 responded POV and Engine 22 with 4. On arrival at a 4 story brick 75 by 100 foot apartment building, the Knox key was released and the crew used it to gain access to the patients apartment for EMS. They then assisted EMS with packaging and removing the patient from the building to their transport unit and were then placed available by Command.

Structure Fire, 1238 Erdman Road (Box 27-3)

Truck 22 dispatched on the initial alarm to 1238 Erdman Road in Lykens Township for a structure fire. County advised of an attic fire in a 2 and one half story wood frame single family dwelling. Truck 22 responded with 7 and Utility 22 with 3. On arrival the Truck was advised to stage at the A/D corner between Engine and Tanker 27 and prepare to go to the roof. At this point Command 27 marked control and began releasing units as the fire was knocked. Positive pressure was started on the upper floors. Company 22 was released and returned to quarters.
