Fire alarm sounded on Sunday morning, October 8, 1911, at 3AM. Fire broke out at [batch] shanty at Matters Ice Dam. The company responded and attached house to the plug at the foundry. The whole shanty was destroyed, with no insurance.

Smoke in a Basement, 403 South Second Street (Box 22-1)
Company 22, Engine 23, Rescue 21 and EMS were dispatched to 403 South Second Street for a report of smoke in the basement. A caller reported that her furnace was making a loud banging noise, and she contacted a repairman who advised her to shut it off. When she attempted to go down into the basement, she discovered what she thought was smoke, so she called 911 and left the residence. Engine 22 responded with a crew of five, Engine 23 with a crew of three, and Rescue 21 responded with a crew of six. After investigation at the scene, command confirmed that it was a furnace malfunction and held the box to Engine 22. The crew shut down the furnace, which was spewing steam into the basement after being overfilled with water.
Company 22 dispatched to a report of wires down in front of Ciao's Pizza Shop on Main Street in Lykens. Engine 22 responded with 4, and on arrival found an electrical wire laying in the street. PP&L was contacted and the Engine was placed available, with the Captain staying to await PP&L's arrival at 10:15.

Smoke Alarm sounding, 512 South Second Street (Box 22-1)
While preparing for weekly Monday night training, the occupant of 512 South Second Street walked into Station 22 and advised the crew that the smoke alarms in his home were going off and he did not know why. Engine 22 responded with 6, and arrived on side A. Crew entered the structure with a meter and checked the house, and found no alarms ringing and no odors or smoke. After checking the entire house and finding normal conditions, the Engine went available.
Company 22 dispatched class three to 801 Market Street in Lykens for a lift assist for Medic 6. Utility 22 responded with 2 and Chief 22 POV. On arrival the crew assisted EMS with lifting a patient and were then placed available.
Three trainmen were killed, one man was injured, and a carload of race horses bound for the Bloomsburg Fair were destroyed in a collision at the junction of the Lykens Valley Branch of the Pennsylvania Railroad near Millersburg on October 8, 1905. The fast mail train for Erie was preceded out of Harrisburg by a fast freight train, which, owing to a heavy fog, lost some time. Its caboose and a box car containing the horses accidentally uncoupled at the junction, and the mail train overtook them. Charles E. Berry and Ralph Hendershott were in the caboose and were killed by the collision. Fireman Theodore Scott of the mail train was hurled into the midst of the wreck and was also killed. There were 200 passengers on the mail train, but none were seriously hurt.
