A combination garage, chicken house, and coal shed burned to the ground on the evening of Thursday, September 6, 1945. The fire was believed to be ignited by sparks from a nearby rubbish fire. Lykens and Wiconisco firemen responded, but were hampered by the lack of water. Chemicals were used and the fire was prevented from spreading to the nearby dwellings. The building, which was practically empty at the time of the fire, was on the property formerly owned by the late Mr. and Mrs. James Thomas.
Engine-22 was dispatched per request of EMS to assist with a patient having difficulty breathing, since EMS had an extended ETA. Engine-22 responded with six personnel and performed initial assessment and took vital signs of the patient. Upon arrival of EMS, personnel assisted with packaging and transfer of the patient to an ambulance.
Company 22 and Engine 23 dispatched class one to 50 Reiff Street in Lykens at the Reiff and Nestor Plant for an automatic fire alarm. Engine 22 went enroute with 3 and Truck 22 with 2. Lieutenant 22 advised that there was a water main break at North and Arlington Streets in the boro that may have triggered the alarm. On arrival, the Engine took side A/B corner by the main entrance of a 75 by 300 foot one story manufacturing facility with nothing showing. Engine 23 was placed in service. The Truck arrived and set up on the D/A corner. Plant staff met the crew and advised of no issues in the plant. A walk through of the plant was performed, and finding nothing, command placed the box in service.
Box 21-6 dispatched for Engine 21 and Truck 22 to 5668 Route 209 in Washington Township at the Upper Dauphin Middle School for an automatic fire alarm. Engine 21 with 7 and Truck 22 with 5. Further information provided to DO 21 was that the activation was accidental and the box was placed in service.
Company 22 dispatched class one to 446 North Street in Lykens for a medical assist for lifting. Truck 22 responded with 7 and on arrival side A they went interior and assisted EMS 24 with the transfer of a patient from the residence to their transport unit and then went available.
