Fire alarm sounded on Sunday, May 30, 1909, at 11:30 AM. Fire broke out at Rudisill property on the corner of North Second Street and Pine Street. The company responded with both carts and made three connections, and had water turned on at both plugs. Not much damage was done, covered with insurance. Newspaper Article: Lykens Standard: Friday, June 4, 1909 Slight Fire Sunday Last Sunday, about 11:30am, while J.R.Fisher and H.E.Sheesley were sitting on the front porch of the former's residence on North Second Street, East of Pine Street, Mr Fisher noticed smoke issuing from the roof of one of the Rudisill properties on Pine Street occupied by James McCann, formerly of Duncannon. Being satisfied that there was fire somewhere in the house, Mr Fisher went to the telephone in his store and called up Central to notify Liberty Hose Company. Mr Sheesley in the meantime carried his double ladders to the McCann home and had them erected just as the firemen arrived, who in a few minutes found the fire, which was caused by a defective flue, and extinguished the flames. The loss is estimated at about $200.00, covered by insurance with the J. H. Rowe & Sons' Agency in Millersburg. A.A.Rudisill desires us to thank all who assisted at the fire.
A bolt of lightning struck the east end of the dance pavilion in the West Boro Park on the afternoon of Saturday, May 30, 1953, at about 2:10 p.m., and caused the building to set afire with an almost total destruction of the structure. The bolt of lightning and resulting fire set up such a terrific heat and spread so rapidly that firemen were hampered in their efforts to extinguish the blaze. It is thought that the fire started in the record room where over 2000 records, used for dancing, were destroyed. It then spread rapidly throughout the building. Equipment loss alone was estimated at $5,800 by a member of the park committee and the building itself is considered almost a total loss. Modern kitchen equipment, radio equipment, and playground equipment were among the items destroyed in the fire. Both Lykens and Wiconisco fire companies responded to the blaze and did excellent work, considering the fire spread so rapidly.

Accident w/ Injuries, 700 Bl Main Street (Box 22-2)
Company-22 was dispatched to an accident near the Catholic Church in the 700-Block of Main Street in Lykens Borough. Engine-22 responded with a crew of six and arrived on scene to find two vehicles involved with no injuries. The crew assisted PSP with scene safety and hazards control until they were released.
Engine 22 was dispatched to the Rattling Creek Apartments, Room 301, for a lift assist, non emergency. Engine 22 responded with a crew of six and assisted EMS with transferring the patient to the transport unit. Engine 22 then went available.
Company-22 was dispatched to 656 North Street in Lykens for a CO alarm activation. Engine-22 responded with a crew of six and Truck-22 responded with a crew of four. This location had a similar CO problem about two months previous. Captain-22 had command. The first in crew monitored the air and got high readings in the basement and first floor. An examination of the furnace in the basement revealed a coal furnace that was running, but had no coal fed into the manual hopper. The furnace was shut off and PPV was started. After ventilating the home, additional CO level readings were taken. When the readings dropped to 0ppm, the property was released back to the occupants. The temperature was in the 90?F range and crews rotated out after two trips inside the house. Medic-6 set up rehab and ran checks on all crew members. The company was released by command and went available.
Truck 22 was dispatched with Company 19 to an automatic fire alarm in Jefferson Township at 3748 Back Road. Truck 22 responded with a crew of six, and, as it was leaving the station, was canceled by Chief 19-1 who was on scene. He reported that construction workers had set off the alarm with dust caused by working on the house.
Tanker 22 was dispatched in place of Tanker 23 for a brush fire on Route 209 east of Lykens. Tanker 22 responded class 1 with a crew of two, and set-up a portable dump tank for Engine 23 to draft from. Tanker 22 was then released by Command 23 and returned available.

Automatic Fire Alarm, 3000 Powells Valley Road (Box 19-1)
Company 19 and Truck 22 dispatched to an automatic residential fire alarm at 3000 Powells Valley Road in Jefferson Township. Engine 19-1 responded with 3 and Chief 19-1 responded to the scene POV. Truck 22 responded with 7, and was placed in service by Chief 19-1 when he confirmed a false activation.
Company 24 and Truck 22 dispatched class one to 9781 Route 209 in Williams Township at the Twin Valley Alliance Church for an automatic fire alarm. Engine 24 went enroute with 3 and Truck 22 with 7. Command advised the Truck to reduce their response to class 3, and on arrival staged until released by command.
On Memorial Day, May 30, 1934, at 4 o'clock in the morning, the Overland sedan driven by Roy Ibberson of Lykens, went through a stop sign at an intersection in the northern end of Tower City and collided with a Chevrolet coupe driven by Peter Szczerba or Minersville. Szczerba's vehicle was pushed into the porch of the home of George Shrope. The left door of Ibberson's car was torn off and he was thrown out onto the pavement. His left ear was badly torn and his skull was fractured. Frank Remis took Ibberson to his South Second Street home in Lykens and placed him on a day bed. When Mrs. Ibberson found him there in the morning, she thought he was sleeping and didn't become alarmed until later in the afternoon. Dr. Fred Perfect was summoned, and after an examination, Ibberson was taken to the Polyclinic Hospital in Harrisburg. The Szczerba car was badly damaged, but neither he, nor his passenger, Mike Seminoski of Minersville, were injured.
Glenn Ferree was accidentally shot in the shoulder on May 30, 1949. He was shooting at a water snake in Rattling Creek at the rear of his home on South Second Street in Lykens. He had failed to set the safety on the gun after shooting.
